This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: James, Dean, Priest Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pAB.2ACI/5143.1 Message Board Post: Hello Theresa, Samuel James was my third great grandfather. From "MOUNTAIN KINSMEN RIDE" by Henry P Scalf, "He [Samuel] was 62 years old when the flood waters of Johns Creek claimed his life. Both Mrs. Honaker and Mrs. McCoy explained that the bed of the stream back a hundred years ago pushed against the north side of the creek, now near the home of Tom McCoy. It was here that Samuel James was drowned on 15 June 1836. He lies buried on the sloping hill near where he met his death." This area of Johns Creek is where Floyd, Pike and Martin Counties meet. Samuel and his wife Pernina Dean James had a grist mill at the mouth of the Brushy Fork of Johns Creek. I have more information about Samuel and his family on my website www.deyoungmatson.com including a map that shows this area. I would love to hear from you and share information. I descend through Samuel 2nd youngest daughter Mahala who married John Priest. My email address is lucydeyoung@isomedia.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Lucy DeYoung
