James Mellon and his brother Beverly Mellon were shot to death on Sunday, Aug. 8 of that year. About five weeks later, Beverly Mellon's son, Bev Jr., shot and killed Prestonsburg police chief Jim Sizemore at the courthouse on a Saturday. Verlie Banks and Ben Layne were tried and found not guilty in the Mellon shootings. Bev Mellon Jr. was also acquitted. I've heard stories of these shootings my entire life, but it's difficult to seperate fact from fiction. Any help would be appreciated. Steve Mellon Pittsburgh, PA
