I've always looked at the name of children's names as potential names of their grandparents, and my gr.grandfather was James Newton Green, though I haven't seen that name used with either the Greens or Gearharts. By the way, my small hometown of Higbee is on the Howard/Randolph Co line (Howard was one of the original counties and at first went all the way north to the Iowa line) and I've seen mention of Gearharts in local sources. Have you seen anything re the marriage of Mary and Johnson Lackland?
