The only Claiborne Jones in my records is the third son of John Ray Jones and Satira Stanley. He is the brother of Nathaniel Teller Jones (Jr), James C. Jones, Ambrose Jones, Lemuel Jones and others from Floyd County, Ky. He is not the infamous feudist and he is not the son of a Rebecca Arnold, who is often attached inaccurately to this family. I have a pretty good list of the children of Ambrose Jones of Floyd County, Ky (born abt 1836) from both of his wives and I do not have a Claiborne. I have seen a different, older Ambrose Jones who was a soldier, but I have no link to my Ambrose...though the name Ambrose is not all that common. I am a descendant of both Ambrose Jones and his brother James...sons of the John Ray Jones and Satira Stanley. I do have a couple of quick questions. Regarding the first Nathaniel Teller Jones...the one who married Nancy Ray. Where did the (Tilman) come from in the posts? I thought the Teller could actually be Tiller, based on the marriage record on Ancestry and Tiller being a more common name in the Amherst County area back in the late 1700s. Also, how do we know this Nathaniel Teller (Tiller) Jones was the son of Nathan Jones and Sarah Hurst? I keep seeing this info, but does anyone have confirmation or documentation of some type? Finally, a question I'm still trying to answer as 'officially' as possible. James Jones was married to Pricy McCown Blankenship. Who were her parents? She was born about 1831-1834. It looks like William Blankenship and Spicey McCown were her parents, but William didn't marry Spicey until 1836. Is William Pricy's father? Is Spicey her mother? Did William and Spicey have an affair before they were married resulting in Pricy? I don't have my notes in front of me so I hope my memory is working. I also think Lemuel Jones was in the 14th KY during the Civil War. Ambrose was in the 39th KY. Thanks...Mitch Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you look at Kentucky Death Certifs ffrom 1852-1953 you find two for him. The first is record # 21171 that says died 28 Jan 1929 of a fractured skull. Parents are William Henry & Sidney (Lewis) Bayes. This was filed in June of 1929, a whole 4 months after death. The second is record # 21976 that says died 28 Jan 1929 of a fractured skull. Parents are Tom Bayes and Martha Hall. This was filed Jan 28, 1929, immediately close to the death. But then there is an obituary : BAYES, Bob 1929 "Bayes from Johnson Co." Bob Bayes died Monday morning, a few minutes after reaching the Beaver Valley Hospital at Martin, from the effects of a fractured skull resulting when struck Sunday on the head with a pipe wrench said to have been wielded by Delaney Johnson. Details of the killing are lacking, but it is reported that the two men became involved in an altercation while repairing a coal tipple at or near Weeksbury. Johnson was brought here Wednesday morning by Town Marshall Murphy, of Weeksbury, and lodged in jail. The victim was a son of Wm and Mrs. Sidney Lewis Bayes, of Riceville, Johnson county. Besides his parents, he survived by his widow and two children. The body was prepared for burial by C. H. Castle, Martin undertaker, and shipped to Riceville for interment. PAINTSVILLE HERALD THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7 1929 I cannot find Bob in the census records with William and Sidney. So I am thinking the obit and the first death certificate are wrong.
