Surnames: Howard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pAB.2ACI/5145 Message Board Post: Looking for possible relations of George Howard (1780 Rowan Co., NC-1877 Elliott County, KY) and wife Sarah ____ Howard (1785 NC- c1860's Elliott Co., KY). George Howard appeared in the 1820 Census of Floyd County and later in Morgan County, KY (probably was living in the area of Floyd County which became Morgan County). George Howard (and possibly Sarah) is buried in the Neal Howard Cemetery, Elliott County, Kentucky. George Howard was son of Christopher & Rachel Howard of Rowan County, NC. I haven't been able to find out Sarah's maiden name. I would like to know if anyone might have Sarah in any of their family records. George and Sarah's children were: James Howard, Joseph Howard, Thomas Howard, Jesse Kendall Howard, Phillip Howard, Dyer Howard, Suddeth Howard, Rachel, Sarah. George Howard had two sons by a previous marriage: Cornelius "Neal", and William. I have seen an old deed from around 1813-1815 belonging to Jesse K. Howard, that mentioned the FLOYD SEMINARY. Haven't been able to find out anything about it. Clark Gray

Also, if anyone knows information on the family of Robert Stephens. He had a sister named Mary who married Wm. R.S. King. I am looking for parentage and/or more siblings. Thanks in advance, Linde Carter

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Moore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pAB.2ACI/5144 Message Board Post: I know very little about Archibald Moore and Sarah's family. I know their children were Wm. Henderson , Florence, Rachel, Nancy, Elizabeth, Jackson, Mansford, John, Ephraim, Harry Lee/ Harrison, and Martin. I have a copy of the people buried in the Archibald Moore Cem. The Moores are my husband's family. Martin "Coon" Moore and Sarah Harper Moore were my husband's grandparents. His mother was Bess Moore md. a Greenhill. One of Coon and Sarah's children years ago wrote down the family. The cousin that has this paper showed it to me. It said that Martin " Coon" Moore was really a Jackson. His parents being Archie Jackson and Sarah Sexton. They died when Archie was very young from an epidemic. I ran some research on these names and found where that Joab and Judah Gibson Moore had a daughter, Nancy, that married William Sexton. Joab and Judah were also Archibald's parents so I have no proof but it makes me wonder. Then ,it also makes me wonder if Archie changed his name to Moore! because he needed to change it for some reason. I have a book that was written by a lady in Texas on Wm. Henderson Moore. I have also heard that Sarah, Archie's wife was a Nolan. This lady says that Sarah was a Moore and a, I believe, first cousin to Archie. I'll have to look. This cousin that had the paper also said he attended Kendall's funeral. His mom had that Kendall was a half brother to Martin "Coon" And Sarah Harper Moore's other children. I would love to share info. Bette

Surnames: James, Dean, Priest Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pAB.2ACI/5143.1 Message Board Post: Hello Theresa, Samuel James was my third great grandfather. From "MOUNTAIN KINSMEN RIDE" by Henry P Scalf, "He [Samuel] was 62 years old when the flood waters of Johns Creek claimed his life. Both Mrs. Honaker and Mrs. McCoy explained that the bed of the stream back a hundred years ago pushed against the north side of the creek, now near the home of Tom McCoy.  It was here that Samuel James was drowned on 15 June 1836.  He lies buried on the sloping hill near where he met his death." This area of Johns Creek is where Floyd, Pike and Martin Counties meet. Samuel and his wife Pernina Dean James had a grist mill at the mouth of the Brushy Fork of Johns Creek. I have more information about Samuel and his family on my website www.deyoungmatson.com including a map that shows this area. I would love to hear from you and share information. I descend through Samuel 2nd youngest daughter Mahala who married John Priest. My email address is lucydeyoung@isomedia.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Lucy DeYoung
