She was born in West Liberty, KY the daughter of Green and Monnie (Bailey) McGuire. (KY BIRTH INDEX LISTS BIRTHPLACE AS FLOYD COUNTY KY ON 6/18/1940). Shirley worked for 33 years as a custodian for the Miamisburg City School Board. Shirley especially cared for her loving dog, Shania. She is survived by her three sons, Marvin, Raymond (Laura) and Chris (Penny) Willis, grandchildren, Jared, Haley, Josiah, Heather and Hope. She also leaves her brothers, Ray, James, Robert, Jackie, and Forest McGuire, 3 sisters, Helen Fletcher, Ella Rose Johnson, and Janice Turner. Shirley also leaves a very special nephew, Taylor Ingram and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Burial in Woodhill Cemetery. Townsel Allen "T.A." Combs, age 96, of Langley, husband of Duna Francis Verich Combs, died Wednesday, November 21 2012 in the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville. He was born August 16, 1916 in Eastern, Ky. a son of the late Townsel and Octavia Allen Combs. T.A. was a retired Civil Engineer, Land Surveyor and a former student of Forestry at Oregon State University. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Paul Townsel Combs, Langley, Shawn Woodward Combs, Harold, William Spencer Constantine Demetrius Combs, Harold, two daughters, Angela Combs Baseman, Jenkintown, Pa., Andrea Malina Montouri Combs, Wilmington, NC, one brother, Carl Lamar Combs, Lexington, Ky., 12 grandchildren, Jessica Combs, Michael Combs, Chad Combs, Dylan Spencer Combs, Matthew Alexander Combs, Landon Grant Combs, Alexis Paige Lewis, Julian Spencer Baseman, Rosalie Eleanor Baseman, Austin Charles Townsel Montouri, Corbin John Peter Montouri, Marianna Sofia Octavia Montouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Thomas Spencer Combs and Gene Norman Combs. Funeral service for Townsel Allen "T.A." Combs will be conducted Sunday, November 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Martha Catholic Church, Prestonsburg, with Father Bob Damron conducting. Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery, Eastern, Ky. He was born August 22, 1935 in Wheelwright, Ky. to the late Frank and Delphia (Tackett) Steffey. On March 14, 1957 in Marion, he married Phyllis Large and she preceded him in death on May 23, 2011 in Defiance, Ohio. James at one time was an employee of the Marion Co. Highway Dept. and also Nelsons Tree Service. He was a U.S. Army Korean Veteran and a member of the V.F.W. and the AmVets. James is survived by a son, Rickey Lee (Sally) Steffey of Napoleon, Ohio; two grandsons, Josh and Matt; and two great- grandsons, Conner and Cole; also surviving are three sisters and two brothers. Besides his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara. Funeral Services for James will be Thursday November 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Paul McKenzie. Burial will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans. I have him living with Verdie and son Irvin/Irwin in the 1930 census and know he fathered my grandmother in 1935, but haven't found any evidence of him after 1935. My father told me that Ben served time for murder or manslaughter but has no details about the conviction or prison sentence. My search is complicated by the fact that I cannot determine for sure whether he is the son of Nathanial (Nathan/Naith) McCoy or Eli McCoy. I believe he could be "Harrison McCoy" in the household of Eli McCoy in the 1910 census, but only because i know he was born in West Virginia around 1899/1900 and I am given to believe his middle name was Harrison.
