Both Spears and Estep had name spelling changes after settling in the Anne Arundel area of Maryland. Spears was Speer, with Andrew coming from Ireland and Estep was Eastrup. Spencer's father was Thomas Speer and his mother was Rebecca Eastrup. It is thought, but not confirmed, that Rebecca's parents were Thomas Eastrup and Mary Lane (who I think is an ancestor of Corbin Lane, since he was also from this area of Maryland). Because of the many Thomas, Wiley, & Spencer Spears, this family becomes a pure nightmare to follow. One of the major problems I have run into with Spencer: he married Tabitha Mirea Chafin 6-24-1816 , per Floyd Co. Ky. marriages. Per N.C. marriages, Tabitha married Fountain Young 7-16-1798 in Rockingham Co., N.C. Since Spencer and Tabitha weren't married until 1816, who is the mother of Thomas 1785, Mary 1! 786, & Robert abt 1795? Unless I am way off on my dates, Tabitha would have been six years old at Thomas' birth. In Spencer's 1810 Floyd Co., Ky census there is one female 45. Are my dates wrong or is there a missing spouse here? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Corbin Lane & Francis Proctor are my 5th great grandparents. I found a will for Corbin but only mentions leaving his estate to his sons and does not mention any of his 6 daughters. His daughter Ruth Lane married Thomas Spears and I have not been able to locate any information as to where or when they were born, married or when they died or where they are buried. Thomas Spears parents were Spencer and Tabitha Mirea Chaffin. I know that Thomas & Ruth lived in Floyd Couynty which now is part of Johnson county. I have 1850/1860 census record showing Ruth (Lane) Spears living in Johnson county living with their sons Samuel and Abraham. And in 1860 she lived with Samuel and his wife abnd Abraham was also living there. I have found a copy of a death record for their son Wiley Marion Spears which shows Thomas and Ruth as his parents and I found a death and marriage record for Frances Jane Spears-We! lch also showing Thomas and Ruth as her parents. Other than that I have not been able to locate infomation on Thomas or Ruth. On the 1850 & 1860 census Thomas was not shown at all...I have been told (but not proven) that he died in 1852??? which does not explain where he was in 1850 as he is not shown on the census records which shows Ruth and 2 of her sons....If there is anyone out there that can help me I would very much appreciate it. I have been searching for anything with Ancestry and on the query boards and still have not found anything to answer my questions.
