She was born July 25, 1934 in Prestonsburg, KY to Ervin and Isabelle (Watkins) Whitaker. On April 30, 1951, she married Rev. Charles E. Calhoun in Mason, MI; he preceded her in death December 25, 1996. Irene worked in housekeeping at Albion College and later worked at Albion Manor as a housekeeper. She attended Crossroads Church and Ministries in Marshall. She enjoyed garage sales, walking, and taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by (1) daughter, Virgie Holtz of Albion, MI, (1) son, Darrel ( Toni) Calhoun of Ashville, AL, (9) grandchildren, (2) great grandchildren, and (1) sister, Bev Carrender of Somerset, KY.
