Born April 6, 1930 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Travis and Jane Slone she had been a resident of Kentucky moving to Shelby in 1951. Willa had worked at AMF and retired from Midwest Industries in Willard, OH. Willa was a member of the Lifepoint Community Church in Plymouth. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband and traveling back to Kentucky to visit family. Survivors include her step-son, James (Tammy) Mitchell of Ashland, OH; one brother, Carl (Barb) Slone of Shelby, Ohio, her sister-in-law, Helen (Ivan) King of Plymouth, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy R. Mitchell in 2011; four brothers, Harold, Elmer, Charles and Onis Slone and one sister, Ethel Tooker. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby, Ohio, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. He was born March 24, 1947 in Wheelwright, Kentucky (Floyd County) to Burgon and Ella (Moles) Sykes. He was united in marriage to Nina "Pam" (Hopkins) Sykes who survives. Also surviving are his loving daughters, Denise (Jerry) Pavey and Renee Woofter; and a loving son, Joseph D. Sykes; four grandchildren whom he adored, Mikey and Zach Woofter and Sarah and Matthew Bell; and his loving sister Betty (Jerry) McCord. His parents and four brothers, Joel, James, Jackie Dean and Danny Ray Sykes, predeceased Billy. Billy retired from P. H. Glatfelter Company, Chillicothe, Ohio, after 25 years of service and was a member of United Steelworkers Union (USW), Local 731 . It happens that I do have a close Halcomb friend who is, it appears to me, immediately akin to those you're looking at and for. I also knew my friend's father - Basel/Basil Halcomb - quite well. Ramey, Jr. MANSFIELD, Ohio: John Ramey wasn't a worrier or anxious. After living with multiple sclerosis for over 30 years, and fighting the good fight, on December 17, 2013, John F. Ramey Jr. departed this life. He was 69. The son of John Ramey, Sr. and Opal (Boyd) Ramey, John was born on April 8, 1944 in Wayland, Kentucky. (Floyd County) He graduated from Wayland High School in 1963. A year later after moving from Kentucky to Mansfield, Ohio he met his future bride, Janice Reece. On May 29, 1965 the two were married. In his younger years, John enjoyed fishing. Standing for what was right and just, John was described as a peacemaker. Earning the respect of coworkers, he worked for General Motors as a supervisor and retired in 1991 after 26 years. John was a member of First Church of God in Mansfield, where he served as trustee.A man of character and integrity, John never complained about pain or discomfort brought on by multiple sclerosis. Instead, he insisted on focusing on the blessings in his life. He is survived by his loving wife Janice Ramey of Mansfield; son Larry Ramey of Ontario, Ohio, daughter Johna (Robert) Powell of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren Amanda Ramey, Brian Ramey, Andrew Merwine, Joshua Merwine, and Molly Powell; sister Carolyn (Clarence) Turner of Galion, Ohio, brothers Jim (Marcella) Ramey of Lexington, Dan (Betty) Ramey of Frankfort, KY; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Isaiah F. Merwine. The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2013 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.
