    3. Hi List, My parents have passed away and I am trying to get some information about their marriage license I received from Lexington, Fayette County, KY. The top part of the license is titled Marriage License. It gives the standard info and the date is 4 Sept 1940. The Date of Marriage and Place of Marriage are blank. It is signed by a Clerk. The bottom part of the license is titled Certificate of Time and Place of Marriage. It states the following. "I minister of the Methodist Church do certify that on 4 Sept 1940 at Lexington, KY , etc, etc, etc." It also states "I qualified and gave bond, according to law, authorizing me to celebrate the rites of Marriage in the County of Shelby State of KY". Date given is also 4 Sept 1940. It is signed by the person performing the marriage. My question is, were my parents married in Fayette County or Shelby County? Also, were they married in a church by a minister, or in the county court office? Do minister's performed marriages in court office's? I know my parents lived in Fayette County. Isn't Shelby County a good distance from Fayette? Any comments would be welcome. thanks, robert rothenbuhler new braunfels, texas [email protected] Researching........
