I do believe your Graves family is the one connected to our Prices. Susan Gano Price married Joseph Graves in 1842 in Fayette Co. KY and went to TX. They had a son, John Coleman and a son, Evan, as well as other children. Joseph died by 1860 and Susan was in the household of her brother, John H. Price, in the 1880 census of Clay Co., MO. Joseph was the son of John C. Graves. (His father was Joseph, John, John, Thomas, Thomas, Thomas...from Genealogy of The Family of Captain Thomas Graves of VA.) I am pretty sure John H. and Susan Price were the children of Evan Price and Catherine Higbee of Fayette County. I am looking for a descendant of this Evan Price. The Dudleys were very active in the Baptist Churches in this area of KY also and I know they knew our Prices. Ambrose Dudley (1750-1826) raised a company and served in the Virginia Line. He removed to Kentucky and was pastor of the historic Bryan Station Church. He was born in Virginia; died in Fayette County, Ky. (This is from the DAR application of Miss Elizabeth Price, granddaughter of Winfrey Ebenezer Price. Elizabeth's mother was a Dudley.--ljdt) According to the same book quoted above, there was a Thomas Coleman Graves who also died in the Battle of River Raisin. It's possible that Thomas and Benj. were brothers, but I can't remember for sure. As far as I know, the Moss connection to the Prices probably started in Halifax County VA, but sounds like one ended up with not so good a reputation in MO or did he earn it honestly? You know what they say: "You can pick your friends, but not your relatives!" Don't know if he is related or not but I do know I am trying to find a Price/Moss connection in VA!--Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carey Bankhead" <carey_bankhead@yahoo.com> To: <KYFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 10:18 AM Subject: Re: [KYFAYETT] Price, Prewitt (Pruitt), Graves, Bryan, and Moss Family Connections in VA and KY. > Who are the Graves people involved? I descend from Maj Benj. Graves of the Lexington, KY area who was killed in the l8l3 'Battle of Rivers Raisin' during the War of 1812. He marred a Dudley, daughter of Capt Ambrose Dudley. The Moss name is familiar to me since my small Missouri hometown had a Horatio Algier story around its l880 founding in a T. J. Moss, who literally walked into town and left owning coal mines, a railroad, etc. If I recall, he came from TN. > > > ==== KYFAYETT Mailing List ==== > Remember, just because you found it online doesn't > mean it's accurate! Forgive me if I am repeating myself, but I am from the small Randolph Co, MO town of Higbee, which takes its name from the Joseph Higbee family who I believe came from Jesamine Co, KY ca l830. Among their inlaws was the Bourne family. The expanded family later moved on to Clark Co in extreme NE MO. In our area the Prices, Heads, and Ruckers intermarried. The village of Roanoke west of Higbee was first called Head's Store. CSA Gen'l and one time MO Gov. Sterling Price was of this expanded family which includes those in Chariton Co to the west. Ruckers were prominent in and around Higbee and were also active in the Southern cause as were the Dysarts, who were also kin to the Higbee's. Stay in touch!
