    1. Re: [KYFAYETT] Price, Prewitt (Pruitt), Graves, Bryan, and Moss Family Connections in VA and KY.
    2. Carey...I think we hit pay dirt! I know more about the beginning of the Higbee family in KY, who came from NJ, than I know of their offspring. I would love for you to expand on the Bourne connection to this family. The Heads and Ruckers are connected to my Price family too. Many of the Prices went to Clay Co. MO but my William Evans Price, son of John Price and Susannah Gano, settled in Howard County near the Chariton border. He went by the name Evans and he was killed by marauders during the Civil War. I understand that he and his wife, as well as at least a daughter, are buried on the old home place. I do believe our Price family is connected to Pugh Price of Prince Edward Co., VA, but I haven't been able to make a direct link yet. This is Gen. Sterling Price's line so if anyone connects to him and has had their DNA tested, I would love to compare kits! Among their inlaws was the Bourne family. The expanded family later moved on to Clark Co in extreme NE MO. In our area the Prices, Heads, and Ruckers intermarried. The village of Roanoke west of Higbee was first called Head's Store. CSA Gen'l and one time MO Gov. Sterling Price was of this expanded family which includes those in Chariton Co to the west. Ruckers were prominent in and around Higbee and were also active in the Southern cause as were the Dysarts, who were also kin to the Higbee's. 3. The file I have on these early families is with info I have in preparation for a small book on Higbee based on its newspaper which was printed from l887-l948. Somewhere I have a copy of the DAR file on Elisha Higbee, I believe it was, which, like so many, claims he stood guard outside Gen'l Washington's tent. As someone has said, that must have been the best guarded tent in history! Jos. Higbee was the progenitor of the Higbee clan in our vicinity, dying there in l849 according to probate documents. One daughter married John Bourn(e), I believe it was, and some sources claim there was a village therabouts named Bournsville (one map calls it Bernsville) before MK&T railroad came through ca l872. It is interesting that the town site and depot lands were from the Burton and Owens farms, but the town was named Higbee. There are a few hereabouts who descend from Jos. Higbee through the Christian & Kitty Higbee Collins line....most themselves Burton descendants. One of Christian Collins daughters married a Dysart, which was possibly the third family to settle in what is now Randolph County (it and Chariton were originally part of Howard, then it was Chariton and Randolph together, and eventually they were divided.) The Collins/Dysarts were strong Southern sympathizers, and the skirmish at Roan's tanyard took place not far from their home. From what I've been able to put together, many of those who settled in and about the Higbee townsite came from Jesamine Co, KY, including the Higbees. The Owens did, I believe. There is what was originally called the Rennolds family cemetery that in later years became known as the Burton family cemetery. May Burton, Sr., is the old man of that family, which was originally from Orange Co, VA, and he served in the Revolution. If you have specific questions, I'll do my best to respond.
