Can anyone tell me if the Samuel Long who was the builder in early Lexington is a decendent of William Long and Agnes Culbertson Long who settled on South Elkorn in the 1790's? I decend from Wiliam and Agnes through their son Isaac and his son Robert M. C. Long. William and Agnes had many children, one a Samuel, but they had several grandchildren named Samuel also. Elaine, ref your post regarding Samuel Long of Lexington, Fayette Co., KY (a builder).... This Samuel Long was my 4GF and while I don't have parents for him, all data I do have indicates this is not your Samuel. I have some data which indicates that Samuels father was a Solomon Long of VA but I cannot verify that.... My Samuel was born 1781 (where?), married Harriet Prentiss 15 July 1806 (died 27 Feb 1812 after having Nathaniel in late Jan 1812) and had children Letitia; Samuel Jr.; and Nathaniel. He married second, Margaret Coolidge 21 May 1812, had children: David (my line), Henry, Martha, John T., Edward, Harriet, and Margaret.... Both marriages at Lexington, KY..... This family contacted TB somewhere along the line and although Samuel Sr.lived just over 70 yrs. most of his sons died prior to age 40 of TB.....his Grandaughter, Letitia, my GGM, lived to age 77 yrs.... Several years ago, in response to my queries regarding the Long family, a nice lady Virginia Sukup of 422 North Clark Road, Ducanville, TX 75116 sent me several pages of a document entitled "The Long Family". This doc indicates it's a revised version by Linda Kaye Ezell of 12 Longview Estate, Elizabethtown, KY. 42701...(503)737-4345....the original data was taken from a book The Long Family written by J.L. Long.......The document does not appear to be of my Long line but I have retained it in file for some years. The early paragraph mentions a William Long that left PA in 1790 and settled in Fayette Co., KY about 8 miles west of Lexington...his wife was Agnes Culbertson and their children Samuel, Robert, Rebecca, William, Isaac, Hester, Elizabeth, and Alexander..... If you are interested I would be pleased to send you a copy of these pages if you would provide your USPS address... Old Hal, a Cincinnati, Ohio native who has lived in Northern California for many years......
