    3. The NPRC does NOT charge for their records. However, it may take more than one attempt to get the records you require. It took me at least 6 tries with partial responses to get my own records for a VA claim. It is still incomplete. Under current rules, when the VA requests records the original is sent to them to keep and they become responsible for it afterwards. Kind of like having the fox guard the henhouse. My most recent attempt to get records was for my father's military record (WW2). Apparently his records were in a section destroyed by fire. They sent me a questionnaire to fill out so that they can try to reconstruct his military record from other records. That was about 2 months ago. Good Luck. I read most of the pages on the site and did not see what the FEE was for copies of records. I can' t believe they do it for nothing. Especially since the National Archive's fees have been rising in the last few years. Carleen ==== KYFAYETT Mailing List ==== Did you learn something helpful through a Rootsweb mailing list?
