    2. Folks, when dealing with early settlers, it's essential to know the maps and the boundaries of the various counties at each particular period of time. Since they changed areas fairly rapidly, and since often folks didn't move but the boundaries did, you need to know where each county was, when it shrank and other counties were formed from it, and what the migration routes were at that time. One book I've used many times is _An Atlas of Appalachian Trails to the Ohio River_ by Carrie Eldridge. It's a combination of maps, commentary and dates explaining the westward movement from the eastern states into Ohio, Ky and Tennessee. It also has the various flows of people, lists the forts along areas of the frontier during different wars and discusses which eastern states tended to settle which areas. This is one of those GOTTA HAVE books. You can get it by ordering it from Carrie Eldridge, 3118 CR 31, Chesapeake, Ohio 45619. I forget what it costs but it's under $20. Sue
