    2. Jeannette Maxey was looking for a researcher for Fayette Co, KY. She said she was looking at the 1790s befor Jessamine Co was split off. My husbands ancestral John Himes was in Fayette Co, KY about 1790, did the Fayette Co. split off into Jessamine Co. KY as I have not been able to find anything about he and his family and they lived in Fayette Co, Ky till about 1806. Thanks for any help Dottie Himes djhimes@bellsouth.net > > From: "Jeannette Maxey" <jsmaxey@hughes.net> > Date: 2006/10/04 Wed AM 07:12:08 EDT > To: <KYFAYETT@rootsweb.com> > Subject: [KYFAYETT] Researcher > > Can you suggest a local researcher for Fayette Co.? 3. Fayette Co formed 1780 as Kentucky County VA. Kentucky was formed as a State in 1792. Jessamine County was formed from Fayette County in 1799. Records prior to 1792 for that area are probably in Richmond VA if they exist at all. Records for Fayette County are: Marriage records from 1795; Probate and land records from 1794 held by County Clerk office. Divorce and Civil Court records held by Clerk Circuit Court, no dates given but suspect from 1792. Records for Jessamine County: County Clerk has marriage, probate, deeds, mortgages from 1799. Circuit Court Clerk has divorce records. Source for the above is The Handy Book for Genealogist, Everton Press, Logan UT Seventh Edition. Old Hal
