    1. Re: [KYFAYETT] Bryan Station Church and Cooper's Run Baptist Church
    2. Thanks a lot. William QUESENBERRY son of Moses stayed at Bryan's Station Church in 1791 after his parents Moses and Ann changed from that church to Coopers Run Baptist Church in 1790. William was also in deeds with Lewis Craig. He didn't go to Warren and Allen counties in Ky with his brothers Elijah, Daniel and Vincent. Some of the family were at David's Fork Church where in 1808-1809 they left for Warren and Allen counties. All I know about Cooper's Run Baptist Church that it was located close to Paris, Ky. 3. I find this interesting Marianne. There might be some clues in it for me. I have Stephen Franklin of Orange County, Virginia in my line. Likewise, after the war, he ended up in Kentucky, but he left few records. He and his wife lived in Fayette early, attended David's Fork Church, but later was found in Anderson County. I am not sure they really moved. The county lines might just have changed. Since Stephen was a witness to the 1802 indenture, it makes me wonder if these guys might have traveled together. The tax records show two listings for a Stephen Franklin. One was 1789 and the other 1790. I cannot determine if there was more than on Stephen or if it was just a duplicate listing. It is suspected that he arrived in Kentucky about 1788. I do not want to hijack your thread here with much information about my Stephen, but they have similar patterns. I post this just to see if it means anything to you. "On my Lewis Franklin Rev War penison he states he was from Orange Co , moved to Surry Co N.C. He eventually removed to Henry Co Va, where he remained. His oldest son was Stephen. He lived in Barren, now Metcalfe Co. 2. Hi Donnie, I am glad you responded. I don't know your Stephen Franklin but am glad he is from Orange County, Va. That shows most of the people came from the Traveling Church or shortly after making their way from Va to Ky or maybe around the time of Daniel Boone. I find the history very interesting but the Craig's in those records were of the Traveling Church from the Orange and Spotsylvania counties in Va. . I have to leave for awhile but will see if your Stephen Franklin is in anymore of my records when I get back. 3. I have just been a casual observer to the comments of this discussion so don't really know anything at all about these particular people, but if any of them were at Fort Pitt and ended up in the Mason County area (what it is called today), it appears likely they might have made their way down the Ohio River via flatboat as opposed to coming through the Gap. Unless you have something to verify actual placement in Virginia prior to being here, I would not rule out another migration path. Most of my ancestors arrived in Kentucky through the Gap, but I did have a couple of lines who came down the river. If they lived in MD or VA, or points southward, the Gap route was the way to go, but many of our more northeast colonists often preferred the river path westward. 1. [KYFAYETT] Moses Cushenberry and Rev. James Quisenberry From Va to Ky, 1783
    2. Since I posted below I looked at the books I have by Anderson Chenault Quisenberry. In one of them it says that Rev. James Quisenberry came from Orange County, Va and in 1783 he removed to Ky. He is the son of Aaron Quisenbery and Joyce Dudley. Rev. James Quisenberry is also the brother of Moses (not mine) and their brother John Quisenberry who was in Clark County and moved to Warren Co.,Ky in 1808. My Moses three sons, Daniel, Elijah and Vincent Cushenberry moved to Warren and Allen Co.,K y ca 1810. Allen was formed from Warren. Seems like they stayed together and knew the same people. Also, 1783 is important. It is the same year in the Quisenberry book that says that Rev. James Quisenberry came to Ky. and 1783 is the first record of my Moses Cushenbery in Ky too. Could they have come from Va to Ky together ? Marianne Dillow. 1. [KYFAYETT] Moses Cushenberry Land
    2. I have looked through my records and Moses Cushenberry that died in 1792 in Bourbon Co., Ky was in 1787 at the settlement of Limestone. Then in that same year he bought 16 1/2 acres in the town of Washington, then in Bourbon County, but now in Mason County. 10 Oct 1787 Bourbon County, Ky Court Records Deed Book A, page 139. Then in 1787 Moses purchased 150 acres from Simon Kenton on south Fork Licking Creek in Bourbon County. Maybe that would help in finding more records as he was from Virginia and the first record found was 1783 where he signed a petition entitled " West Side of Laurel Mountains Inhabitants to the President of the Continental Congress" which was a plea for the formation of a new state. . 1. [KYFAYETT] Migration Route From Va to Ky Around 1783
    2. It might be very possible that I do not know the migration route of the settlers and the Traveling Church from Virginia to Kentucky especially where Bourbon County is concerned where we find the first record of my Moses Cushenberry in 1783 and where he died in 1792 in Bourbon County. Could someone explain the migration route to me please. I may be looking for records in the wrong place. Thank you, Marianne Dillow Illinois.

    1. [KYFAYETT] Moses Cushenberry and The Quisenberry Family of Virginia to Kentucky
    2. My 5th great grandparents are Moses Cushenberry and wife Ann unknown. Moses was born in Virginia. He was in Kentucky in Fayette and Bourbon counties as early as 1783. He died in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1792 where he left his inventory. The Cushenberry name has been spelled several ways in records in Kentucky. Moses settled in the Limestone area in the town of Washington and Licking Creek and the land eventually became Mason Co., Ky although it was in Fayette and Bourbon counties when Moses lived there. It is believed Moses was a part of the Virginia Quisenbery family and possibly a brother to Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. son of Humphrey Quisenberry or Humphrey's brother William Quisenberry although I am still looking for a record to prove it. Below is relationships that shows the Quisenberry family and intermarriages and the Traveling Church were known to my Moses Quisenberry that died 1792 in Bourbon Co., Ky. Moses and Ann's children are: (1) John Cushenberry married Rebecca Dowden10 Dec 1791. (2) William Cushenberry... had a daughter Rachel who married Richard Brown. (3) Elijah Cusenberry married Polly unknown..... their daughter Obedience married (i) Johnson Ellis, (ii) Johnson J. Cockerell. (4) Vincent Cushenberry m. Mary Davis dau of William Davis 4 May 1791 in Bourbon Co., Ky.. (5) Daniel Cushenberry m. Sally Davis dau of William Davis. (6) Mary Cushenberry m. Nicholas Lindsay. (70 Elizabeth Cushenberry m. Zachariah Ross. (8) Anna Cushenberry m. Vachel Lindsay. (9) Rachel Cushenberry m. John F. Pullin (Pulliam). In Fayette County, Ky. Moses sons William and Elijah Cushenbery bought land from Rev. Lewis Craig and bounded by William Robinson of "The Traveling Church". The Fayette Co., Ky Tax List A as an example shows on 8 June 1787 my "Moses Coosenberry" next to Rawleigh Chinn and Smith Darnell on each side of him with John Tandy on down on that date. John Quisenberry was also in Fayette Co., Va in a 1788 deed bounded by Thomas Burris and Robert McMillion and the record was acknowledged in Orange Co., Va as well as in Ky. Also Rev. James Quisenberry was in Fayette Co., Ky son of Aaron Quisenberry and Joyce Dudley. He was born 1759 in Spotsylvania Co., Va and died in Clark Co., Ky in 1830. He m. 1st Jane Burris dau of Thomas Burris and Frances Tandy and 2nd to Chloe Shipp. My Moses Cushenberry's children moved on to Warren Co., Ky and Allen Co., Ky formed from Warren County. Aaron Quisenberry was also in the 1820 Warren County records. He is the grandson of Aaron Quisenberry and Joyce Dudley. My Moses Cushenberry son Elijah m. dau Obedience m. Johnson Ellis 31 Jan 1804 in Fayette Co., Ky. Johnson Ellis died 1814 in Warren Co., Ky. Elijah Cushenberry named a son Neil McCann. It should be noted that the family of Hezekiah Ellis and Mildred Burbridge had a dau who m. Joseph McCann and a dau Sarah who m. O'Neal McCann. Mildred m. 2nd to Benjamin Robinson. Also Sallie Ellis married Aaron Quisenberry whose first wife was Rachel Shelton. The Kentuckian-Citizen, Paris, Ky dated 22 Jan 1946 states" The McCann's Joseph and Neal were brothers of "Grandmother Cusenberry." We also have a Dudley Robinson who married into my Cushenberry family in Ky. Moses Quisenbery son of Aaron and Joyce Dudley was confused with my Moses Cushenberry for several years. But my Moses was older born ca 1720-1740 time frame as he died in 1792. Anderson Chenault. Quisenberry in his book entitled " Genealogical Memoranda of the Quisenberry Family" on page 199 in the appendix says this about my line of Moses Cushenberry.... " From the "Burnt Records" of Fayette County" " The Burnt Records , so called, of Fayette County, Kentucky, are copies of mutilated papers partially saved from the flames when the Fayette County Clerk's Office was destroyed bt fire prior to the year 1800. In April 1888, I examined these records personally, and found where my great-grandfather Rev. James Quisenberry, bought 200 acres of land in 1788, in (now) Clark county, from his brother-in-law, Rev. Andrew Tribble. And in the same book (Vol I, page 213) it is recorded that in 1795 Elijah Cushenberry bought land on David's Fork, Fayette County, from Elijah Craig. " " Also, the following entries from the records succeeding the "burnt records". for the period between 1795 and 1800, viz: i. District Court, Book D, Elijah Cosenberry, deed to Elijah Craig, page 133. ii. . District Court, Book D, Lewis Craig to Lewis Custenberry, page 166........ (I don't know who Lewis Custenberry is ) iii. Circuit Court, Book B, Lewis Craig to Elijag Crousenberry, page 688 iv. County Court, Book C, Elijah Custenberry to R. R. Hunt, page 308 v. County Court, Book E, Wm. Cusenberry to Charles Robinson, page 381 vi. Marriage Register, book 1, page 4, John Pullen to Rachel Cushenberry Nov 6, 1804, by Rev. Ambrose Dudley. Elijah Cushenberry certifies that his sister Rachel is of lawful afe. Book 1, page 10, Obedience Custenberry to Johnathan Ellis , Nov 29, 1807, by Rev. R. R. Hunt " Who these people were, and where they went to when the left Fayette county, in 1810, I do not know ......( my line went to Warren and Allen Co., Ky.. !! )........ the variations in the spelling .of the name is due to the lawyer who drew up the papers or of the clerks who recorded them, for none of the parties themselves could write at first, though Elijah seems subsequently to have learned to do so, and then, instead of "making his mark" he signed Cusennberry."..... A.C. Q..... Anderson Cheanault Quisenberry I feel that Aaron Quisenberry and Joyce Dudley named their son Moses after mine. Their other son is Rev. James Quisenberry who married (1) Jane Burruis (2) Chloe Shipp. Also, Aaron Quisenberry, Jr married Sally Ellis. Also... John Quisenberry brother to Rev James Quisenberry and son of Aaron Quisenberry and Joyce Dudley moved from Clark Co, Ky to Warren County, Ky in 1808 about the same time my bunch went there ca 1810. So in my research which started in the 1980's on Moses Cushenberry continues. If anyone can contribute to what I have it would be very much appreciated as the people named and the relationships are rather suspicious. :) Marianne Dillow Illinois
