    3. "George Shelton" <zack@kanokla.net> Inquired to the KYFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com >Date: Sat, Mar 18, 2000, 4:21 PM On the origins of Rutherford SHELTON whom he has b about 1796 Fayette Co, KY and died 1846 in Fayette County Il. > I have on the family of Daniel SHELTON of Fayette Co: That he shows up on the tax rolls of Fayette Co, KY in 1807 and those of Gallatin Co, KY in 1814. He lived in the part of the county that formed part of Owen Co in 1819. Daniel died in Owen County prior to 1842. His wife's name was Mary Ann. In 1810 Daniel is listed as born 1765-1784 and his wife before 1765. Daniel and Mary Ann's children were born in North Carolina. The children known to me are: 1) Greenwood SHELTON b 1783 North Carolina. Mar. Jane LYONS 29 Apr 1809 in Fayette Co, KY 2) Thomas SHELTON, died 17 Aug 1846 Owen Co, Kentucky. Mar. Elizabeth JOHNSON 1815 in Gallatin Co, KY 3) Mary SHELTON b 1790/1800 Died bef 1847. Mar. Peter AKERS 3 Apr 1813 in Fayette Co, KY 4) Rutherford SHELTON b.1794/1804 Mar. Elizabeth MULLIKEN 1 Oct 1817 in Gallatin Co, KY; Elizabeth the daughter of John MULLIKEN, deceased. 5) Hugh SHELTON b 1794 North Carolina. Mar. Betsy YANCY 1818 in Gallatin Co, KY Rutherford is listed along with Greenwood, Hugh, Thomas, and Daniel on the Twin Creek/Stream(?) in Gallatin County by 1818. I have several suggestions as to the origin of Daniel SHELTON but have confirmed none of them. The guess has been that he came from Virginia but he certainly lived in North Carolina for a time. I am following down on the Mary SHELTON-Peter AKERS connection most of whose children moved to Lawrence Co, Illinois. Jim Scofield, Livermore CA, Scofield@ccnet.com

    3. Hello all - I'm new to your list and would like to take a moment and tell you what I am searching for in Fayette County, KY. I am trying to prove the parents of Rutherford SHELTON. Nancy E. SHELTON 1824-1895 Mary A. SHELTON Jemima SHELTON 1833-1893 John T. SHELTON 1839 (most likely by different woman) I have reason to believe that Rutherford's parents are Daniel SHELTON Jr. and Martha KEATTS. {Daniel 1764-1816 and Martha ?} If anyone can help me, I'd love to hear from you. 2. << I didn't see any for 1790 thru 1795.>> There was a fire at the Fayette County courthouse, so a lot of records were lost. Probably would be best for those looking for the records around that time to go to the historical society. Just a thought. ~Virginia

    1. [KYFAYETT] Re: Early Fayette Marriages
    2. I went to the Fayette Co. Library yesterday for various marriage look ups. Since I had never looked for marriage records there, I went looking for records that some on this list said existed. I found the film for white marriage bonds from 1803 thru 1898, ministers bonds from 1795 thru 1852, colored marriage bonds from 1823 thru 1894, and misc. dated-with-no-year marriage bonds. I didn't see any for 1790 thru 1795. I searched thru the undated or prebiously unfilmed bonds, but I didn't see any that appeared to belong to the requests I found on this list. There was a trainee librarian in the Kentucky room, and she did'nt know anything about those particular films. My local FHC may have those records you all need. We also have the Margaret King Library, which had been closed for a time because they moved the entire collection to another building.I'm going to try to get back to the Fayette Co. library today. They usually have a very nice, very helpful lady there on the weekends. If I am looking for early marriage records for you, please be patient. I am going out of town on Tuesday and won't be back until the 27th. I have no research of my own in Fayette County, so I am not very familiar with what records are available. I will try to get a listing of what records are available at all 3 places. I never looked because I never needed any. I joined this list simply to help others, as people in other states have helped me. Diane

    2. Hi Pam, I realized, too late, that I'd sent my message to the entire list. Stupid me!! Anyway, there was a write-up in the Fall 1999 Ellis Cousins Newsletter about my web site (and they noted that I was not a member) and Cousin Margaret's research on the Ellis family. Polly Askew Menendez has the wrong URL for my page on her web site and, try as I might, I have not been able to get in touch with her to give her the new URL. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you. And I hope you had a very pleasant plane trip. ~Virginia <<Good to hear from you as well. 1. [KYFAYETT] RENFREW - KING
    2. I have been looking for Patti Renfrew King and family for some time now with little luck. I believe she was born in Fitchburg or Pittsfield, MA around the middle 1920s, to Ann Marie Lambert Renfrew (Terrell) and Earl Jay Renfrew. She had a sister, Mary Helen Renfrew (Terrell) born 5/7/29 in Pittsfield (my mother) and a brother, Earl James Renfrew, born 8/26/19 in Pittsfield, MA. She may have been living in New York City around 1937. In 1960 she married LONNIE KING, in Warren County KY. They had at least one son, who would now be about 46 years old. There was a very moving article in the Sunday Herald-Leader, Lexington, KY on December 24, 1972, about her son bringing her an orphaned blind kitten whom she named Fury. She resided on Versailles Road at that time. Anyone with any knowledge of this family, please, send me any information you have, no matter how small it may seem. Sincerely, Cheryl

She had a sister Evelyn, and a sister Beatrice, who married Ed White. There was a Carl, but I don't know who he was. There were other brothers and sisters that I don't know their names, they died of TB. There was an Aunt Kate, a Carlile, and that's all I know. Any info would be appreciated. She was born in Lexington. Thanks for any help. Mrs. Marion Cauble
