    2. My Fayette surnames are: HOWARD BOWMAN My mother was born near Lexington in 1911, the first year KY began recording births. She never had a birth certificate until I called Frankfort in 1972, when she needed one for retirement documentation. There were several reasons why she was unable to get a copy, previously. 1). The birth was reported under "unnamed female" 2). Her mother's maiden name was misspelled as "Bowens", not BOWMAN 3). An Aunt had insisted her date of birth was 1913, not 1911 Even with the limited computer technology of 1972, the birth certificate was located in a few minutes. My mother was thrilled and even requested a wallet sized copy of this elusive document she has kept in her billfold. The HOWARD'S came from ANDERSON COUNTY before 1911. My G Grandfather, Jeremiah BOWMAN was a left handed blacksmith, who also moved to Lexington from ANDERSON COUNTY in the early 1900s. My Grandmother (Frankie BOWMAN HOWARD) operated a restaurant in Lexington, near the viaduct, I believe, in the early 1920s. My mother mentioned being there as a young teenager, and told stories about customer's habits, the Dept. of Health rating system, and how vanilla and chocolate were the only flavors of ice-cream they stocked! My grandfather, James Mort Howard, was a Spanish-American War veteran. He was the caretaker at Lexington Cemetery for some period of time. My mother said they lived in a"cemetery house" on the grounds, at that time. She recalls how the cemetery gates were locked each evening. Can anyone add any details? Joan in Pennsylvania

    3. On the 1810 Ky Census, there was one John Carter listed in each of the listed counties. These were the only John Carters in Ky in 1810. One of them had at least 2 sons, John and JOB, who was "deaf and dumb". Does anyone have any information of such a combination John, with sons John and a Deaf JOB? Any information appreciated. Ann Margaret Kearsley Job Carter, II, Grandson of Peter Carter, moved from Amherst Co., VA about 1802 or 3, and settled in Fayette Co., KY (Lexington). His will is recorded in Fayette Co., KY in 1807, Will Book B. The following is from a letter written by my father: Job, Jr. ten years later appears in the records of Fayette County, Kentucky, as the owner and resident of Walnut Hill, a farm on the Richmond Pike about five miles south of Lexington, the county seat of Fayette County. He was a member of Walnut (_____?) Presbyterian Church, and apparently donated the land for the church, and is buried in the churchyard. However, when I went there to locate his grave in 1924 or '25 I found the sandstone grave stones so weatherbeaten I could not decipher the names or dates, but I found his will recorded in Will Book B of the Fayette County records, leaving his brass kettle, several slaves (or, as he called them "servants") and his grind stone, among other treasured items to various children. 3. Wish I had remembered about you wanting this information as I saw it before when you posted it. When I was at the Library for the two hours I sat right next to where the files on the Thomson are kept. Found this in tonights Napa paper. Jimmie Ray Thomason, 53; born and raised in Napa, and a Vietnam Veteran, died July 8 of natural causes. He was the son of Mae and the late Raymond Troy Thomason. He is survived by his mother Mae M. Thomason of Napa, one son, Jimmie Ray Thomason, two brothers Raymond Charles Thomason and Lon Thomason; two sisters Dorothy Strohmeier and Marie Fitzpatrick and three grandchildren. Following his retirement in June, after 30 years of serve at Napa Pipe, Jim moved to his property in La Pine, Ore, to be near his brother and extended family. The funeral service and interment were in La Pine. You probably aren't interested in this, but one never knows.
