    2. Shirley What did you learn about this possible son of James Madison Kidd as far as future census pages? Which ones do you have on him? Does the year and place of birth jive with the possible James Kidd info from the 1850 census? Still thinking about our connection. If you do connection to this KIDD family, I just got some pictures from a woman that descends from Jame Madison Kidd's brother, William Connor Kidd. They begin with Philiip Connor Kidd, son of Wm Connor Kidd. They are pretty neat. Just thought I would let you know I am still thinking about you. Elaine

    3. Kat, A couple of things....Mamie is a nickname for Mary and Nannie is a nickname for both Nancy and Anna. You are probably right in that the newspaper may have made a mistake in listing the names of the sisters. It is interesting that your mother's aunt was Anna called Joanna and that Joanna's two sisters were Mary and ? Nannie or Mamie...given there is already a Mary from o.k. and Anna was called Joanna..I would bet that the Nannie Talbert you found in the KY death index is the correct one...her given name was probably Nancy...but she like so many others used her nickname instead. You should be able to obtain a death certificate from the county in which she died. The information on the death index is below and has the number for the certificate and the volume no. of the book it is recorded in...contact Fayette County Clerk for Vital Records: the following information should be sufficient to get a copy of the certificate.... TALBERT NANNIE 082 FAYETTE FAYETTE 03-07-1948 volume 010 certificate 04886 death volume 1948 you can call for fee costs and exactly how to obtain a copy. Good Luck. 3. Thanks, Shirl. I mailed a letter to the institution this morning and I'm hoping that the records are still available. Meanwhile, I was wondering what experiences others had with this sort of thing. 1860 is an awfully long time ago and I'm hoping that the records weren't destroyed. There's no mention in the KY state archives database on this sort of record. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Regarding the Indiana records that you'll be sending for -- I ordered copies of records for the Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans Home in southern Indiana. The records were held by the Indiana State Archives. I received copies of the admissions and discharges records, as well as a four-page application form on each of four siblings (year: 1900). I was very satisfied with the amount of information provided for a fee of only $10. So, you might want to check with the state archives regarding the records you are looking for -- they might have your information if the institution does not. Good Luck and thanks again. 3. Christine is right about the definition of 'insanity'. On the other hand, my ggrandfather had a kidney disease there was no cure for at that time. The resulting behavior of the poison in his system caused by his failing kidneys was 'crazy' and the only solution was to commit them until death. So there are a whole range of reasons during those days to have been in Richmond, IN (where mine was also) besides plain out insanity. I expect it was pretty much the same for any mental institution. Now, they just let me run loose! LOL I hadn't been told that about the records but I'm about to find out. I'll send for them and let you all know the results on Richmond's records. Shirl ----- Original Message ----- From: Christine M. Several years go I went to the cemetery records to find out where my husband's grandfather had died, since no record was available in the county where he should have been living in 1926 when he died. The cemetery record showed that he had died in Richmond, IN, and when I sent for a copy of his death certificate, I found that he had died at the state hospital/asylum in Richmond! I tried to get his records, to see why he had been "committed", but those records, along with others from the '20's (and beyond?) had been destroyed, I was told by a hospital official. I've never checked to see if there was a probate hearing or some such to have him placed there. I do know that his first wife died in 1916, and sometime thereafter he remarried. His granddaugther, my mother-in-law, never talked much about the situation, except to say that his two children didn't like the woman, and did all they could to sabatoge the marriage. That statement leads me to wonder about the circumstances of his commital. A definition of insanity in those times could be almost any abberant behavior, so don't be surprised at what you find in the records if you get them. Thankfully times have changed. Here is a website that is very handy for vital records information: http://vitalrec.com/ky.html What were the surnames involved for these folks--Aunt Anna's maiden name? Nannie was 82 when she died and the Social Security system only started in 1935, so it is unlikely that she would have had a SSN...she was 75 when it began. Good luck with your searches! Also, a Nancy > McWilliams is shown marrying Andrew Black 4-2-1801, and a Robert Simonton > 8-25-1802... Are these 2 different women, or are they all, one and the same. > Also, need parentage for George Nutterfield. > > Dick Carter > rcar37@prodigy.net > > ============================== > Get a MASTERCARD with NO Credit Check or Up Front > Cash Security Deposit and GUARANTEED* Approval! > NO Interest Rate! http://www.dollarsonthenet.com/cgi-bin/track/1631/19 The Nancy McWilliams that married Andrew Black, was b: Oct 17, 1782, d. bef. July7, 1862 in Madison, Kentucky, had 14 Children, Her parents John McWilliams & Elizabeth Cleveland. After going through thru another batch of research, your line of Nutterfield/Nutterfee/ and Nutter's is they way to have to research this family, because of the number of times it has been mispelled. Point in case: Finally found George Nutter married Nancy W. Mcwilliams Jun 24, 1803 in Shelby County, Kentucky. Then Nancy Mcwilliams who married Andrew Black, This Nancy died bef. Jul 1862 in Madison Co. don't think they tie , but could be wrong. Looking for more. Richard Embry
