On April 9, 1827 in Fayette County, KY Joseph Stafford married Sarah Tilton. Does anyone have any further information on this couple? I believe Sarah Tilton may be the same woman who married Henry Beach on March 26, 1834 in Fayette County, KY who was then Mrs. Sally Stafford. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, MichaelAnne Guido

I recall one on 7th Street, and one adjoining Lexington Cemetery from the rear side. Whitney Young Jr. was buried in the latter but his grave was later moved. Kathy, Your older cemeteries had black sections for some time. The old records indicated black or white and you should be able to ask at any of the older cemeteries where the old black section is and see in their records if you have the right one. Otherwise, you might need to check for old churches that were strictly black and see if they had their own cemeteries. There is an entry in the Draper Collection that concerns someone I have been looking for and am seeking any further information on these families. This marriage was performed by Rev. James Crawford in Fayette County, KY on Jan. 1, 1795. The entry is as follows: 1795 Jan 1st - Stephen Birch and Nancy Ward Can anyone please identify the parents, origins or anything about this couple? They were Presbyterians and probably are tied to the early Presbyterian immigrants in Fayette County, KY. This couple had a son named James H. Birch who married Sarah C. Holstead in Fayette County, KY on Oct. 3, 1825. James H. and Sarah Holstead Birch had a son named Stephen D. Birch who married Sarah Ann Beach and lived later in Grant County. KY. Does anyone know where the original Stephen Birch or his wife Nancy Ward were born? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, MichaelAnne Guido

On the 1830 census of Fayette County there are two men I am seeking further information on. The first is a Jabez Beach who lived in Lexington. The second is a William Beach who lived in Fayette County outside Lexington and near Bailey Beach the founder of the Grant County Beach line. William Beach was born between 1790-1800. He appears as: 2 males 5-10 1 male 15-20 1 male 30-40 1 female 10-15 1 female 20-30 Jabez Beach was born 1790-1800. He appears as: 1 male 10-15 3 males 15-20 2 males 20-30 1 male 30-40 1 female 5-10 1 female 10-15 I believe that he has brothers living with him. The 1830 census also shows Joseph Beach the carriage maker in Lexington who was in partnership with Richard Ashton in the company Ashton & Beach. 1 male 40-50 1 male 20-30 2 males 5-10 1 female 15-20 2 females 30-40 Does anyone have a listing of his children? The coach business of Ashton and Beach was one of the most famous of carriage makers in the West and located in downtown Lexington. The were cited many times in the old Kentucky Gazette abstracts between 1801-1820. Richard Ashton the other partner was originally from Philadelphia, PA and died of cholera in 1831. The Ashton home was a historic landmark in Lexington. Bailey Beach appears as: 1 male 5-10 1 male 20-30 1 female under 5 1 female 5-10 1 female 20-30 I believe this to be Bailey Beach,Jr. son of Bailey Beach and Nancy Vaughn and grandson of Joseph Beach of Virginia. Any help with these Beach families would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, MichaelAnne Guido PS Richard Ashton appears on the City of Lexington census 15 houses from Joseph Beach. He has (and I only have the males): 5 males 15-20 1 male 20-30 1 male 50-60 The male 50-60 is Richard Ashton from Philadelphia, PA.
I am seeking information on Staffords in Owen and Fayette Counties in Kentucky. I am interested in one Henry Stafford who was living in Owen County as early as 1820. He had a daughter named Sarah Stafford who married a Daniel Webb in Fayette County in 1830. Did this Stafford line originally come from Fayette County? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, MichaelAnne Guido
Dear Bill, Thank you very much for your information. I am very interested in Rev. Adam Rankin. I believe he married Martha McPheeters from Augusta County, VA. These are probably the parents of Robert A. Rankin born 1793 in Fayette County, KY. This gets a little complicated but Martha McPheeters is either a cousin or perhaps a sibling to Jane McPheeters born Feb. 16, 1765 in Augusta County, VA. Jane McPheeters married Hugh Garrett in 1796 and they settled in Woodford County, KY. Hugh Garrett and Jane McPheeters had several children, but their daughter Jane Garrett was married twice. Her first husband was John F. Kennedy whom she married on Nov. 15, 1827 in Woodford County, KY. He died just before Oct. 14, 1834 in Woodford County, KY. Their second daughter married Christopher Webster and there are ton of descendants in Grant, Owen and Gallatin County of this couple. After John F. Kennedy died Jane Garrett Kennedy married her cousin Robert A. Rankin on May 23, 1837. They had two sons Robert Rankin born in 1842 and John W. Rankin born in 1843. Robert A. Rankin also died prior to Sept. 1847. I am trying to establish whether the Rankins in Grant County are descended also from this line. The fact Rev. Adam Rankin was a Presbyterian minister tells me he was from the Scottish Rankin families which makes sense on why he married into the McPheeters line. The McPheeters were married into the Campbells and Walkers who even founded one of the first Presbyterian seminaries in Augusta and Rockbridge Counties in Virginia. I will see what I can turn up on the references you cited. I do know that these Presbyterian families were attached to the Philadelphia Synod which was a strict and unusual form of Presbyterianism. This also occurred with the Philadelphia Confession of Faith Baptists who moved to this part of Kentucky with Rev. Joseph Craig of Stamping Grounds Baptist Church. Apparently Pennsylvania churches were on the cutting edge of strictness and new ideas of reform in several Protestant denominations. They were also great preachers. I really appreciate your help. Sincerely, MichaelAnne PS Robert Campbell is named as the administrator of Hugh Garretts estate in 1849 in Woodford County and I still do not know the connection there.
