Greetings, Fayette County list subscribers -- I am a resident of the Seattle area with roots into Kentucky. According to family records my great grandfather Edward Stevenson SHROCK was born in Lexington, Fayette Co, estimated 1836 - 1846. He married Laura TAYLOR who was from Concord, KY. (The county is uncertain. One Kentucky gazetteer I found lists places called "Concord" in six different Kentucky counties). In time they moved to Covington, Kenton Co. and had two children, Olga, and George Taylor SHROCK, who was my grandfather who died a year before I was born. Perhaps some of you Kentucky natives can suggest sources for birth information or other resources unique to Fayette County. The 1850 federal census shows a Edward SHROCK, age 14 as part of a household headed by Mary D. SHROCK, age 50. Included in this household was William J. PRATHER, age 18, a farmer, Sara PRATHER, age 15, and Robert J. PRATHER, age 26, a farmer, in District #2, Fayette County. The 1860 census shows in District #1, Fayette County, a household consisting of Edward SHROCK, age 22, a teacher residing with Walter PRATHER, age 33, a farmer, his wife Mary, age 32, and 5 children ages 6 mos. to 8, and another man, a "day laborer". Was this 22-year-old school teacher my great grandfather? Was Mary D. SHROCK, shown in 1850, his mother? Do any of you have coroborating information that will help tie together these puzzle pieces? Hank, Try checking out the Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church. Shirl ----- Original Message ----- From: H. I have information that a John RICE sold property to this church in Fayette County, Kentucky August 14, 1792. There is no specific location of the property. Would appreciate any information if a known church of this type existed in Fayette County, and if so where I might find information concerning it. There Winn's married into the Westmoreland Co., Va. Minors. This family is different from Doodes Minor who is my relative. >> Oh, that's the difference. Well, you & I have the same Minor/Montague lines. Did you know that Peter's (b. 1603) last wife, Cicely, was married to a Thompson and that her son, William, m. Peter's dau. Ellen? Some say that Cicely was married 3 or 4 times before she married Peter. Guess not much has changed since "the good old days." ~Virginia
There Winn's married into the Westmoreland Co., Va. Minors. This family is different from Doodes Minor who is my relative. There are many Winn's and other families tied into the John Minor family of Westmoreland Co., Va. This is not the Doodes Minor family that I am related to. There are 98 pages of John Minor of Westmoreland Co., Va. that I have and it gives many descendants. Need parentage of Nancy W McWilliams, who married George Nutterfield, 6-24-1803, in Shelby Co., Ky. I Have her Name as Nancy Steppe Williams from family papers of Son Goalson Nutterfield, and the record shows Nancy W.McWilliams. Which is right?(What does the W stand for?) Also, a Nancy McWilliams is shown marrying Andrew Black 4-2-1801, and a Robert Simonton 8-25-1802... Are these 2 different women, or are they all, one and the same.
