    3. Penny, You betcha it still exists. One of the finest Liberal Arts colleges anywhere. I'll bet they have a web page, and the library will have part of that too, so you could get addresses from there. I'd suggest writing or calling the registrar's office and asking where the records would be from your dates. They would probably have an idea. It was affiliated with the Disciples of Christ Christian Church; I can't recall if it still is. Hope this helps. 3. I am researching Thomas Preston Haley born 1832 near Lexington, KY, son of Benjamin Haley and Mary Carver. Benjamin Haley took his family soon after to Randolph County, MO. Anyone know anything about this family in the Kentucky years? Benjamin Haley was probably the son of either Benjamin or William Haley found in Fayette County in 1790. Anyone know when Benjamin Haley and Mary Carver married? Thanks, P. Penny Hartzell Woodbury, CT

    3. Hi, Does Transylvania University in Lexington, KY still exist? I have a Joshua Hobbs who granduated from the school of medicine circa 1830. And I have a Rev. John William McGarvey who was president of the College of the Bible there during the 1850s. And I have a Thomas Preston Haley who was ordained as a minister in 1856 in the Christian Church there. I wondered if I could write them and they may be able to tell me something about the above people. Especially Rev. McGarvey. Thanks, P. Penny Hartzell Woodbury, CT

    3. On behalf of a friend's family, can you e-mail me a brief outline of your family line of Kidd? Beginning somewhere down in the 1900's, and going back as far as you can? They are having trouble getting a good start on their Kidd line. I just met the father of my young friend, who is a Kidd, this last week. They could really use some help. Sue Norris Hodnett

    2. Did the census say in which state he was born? You might also want to see if he left a will. It may have a clue or two. ~Virginia << I need direction please! I have been working on a family line - James L Kidd. A brick wall has been presented. Yesterday, I received the death certificate of his wife, Cynthia Branham Kidd, died January 31, 1941. She is buried in Lexington Cemetery. The death certificate indicated she had been married to Dr. James L Kidd. I have the 1880 census confirming this association and showing there were two children at that time. I called Lexington Cemetery, I live in CT, and asked if there was a James L Kidd buried near Cynthia Kidd. The initial answer was "NO". I asked if there was a way to cross check that...she left and came back and said that a James L Kidd is buried next to her with his burial date being September 16, 1892. QUESTION: Since KY didn't start keeping death records until 1911, does anyone have suggestions as to how to learn who the parents of James L Kidd were? Was there a newspaper that an obit could be researcher for 1892? I called the funeral home that was in existence at that time period and they said their records from that time period were destroyed in a flood. HELP would be greatly appreciated! Thank you Elaine Kidd O'Leary >>

James and Sarah were born in KY 1799/1800. I believe James is one of the Bourbon County KY McCOYs of whom I descend because he was cousin to my ancestor. I believe that my McCOY had known Ira BEARD in KY. His wife was a LEWIS from Fayette County (Mary Anne b. 1795 d/o Jesse) Several of the BEARDs settled around Clark County MO and later moved to CA along with many neighbors after the Civil War. The route for many seems to have been to move first from KY to OH and then to MO. 3. Hi listers, I have a ggg grandfather who buried a wife in the Lexinton area before moving on to IN. He had children he brought to IN with him; Jane and Minus being two of them. Jane is my gg grandmother and I don't know what her mother's name was. Is there anyway to check for a female Turner buried in that area between 1800 and 1828? Her husband's name would have been Burns Turner. Two of the children as named above. Maybe a census check or something? If it weren't for brick walls, what would I do with my time? Thank you, Shirl in OH

    3. Hi Stephen...have no direct info your Beard family, however recently downloaded data from the Fayette Co Web Site re: Fayette County people serving in War of 1812 and Mexican War. War of 1812 article mentions a Pvt Henry Beard as a member of Capt N.G.S. Hart's Company, one of six Companys raised at Lexington, Fayette County, KY........you can read more in the article about where they served.... Mexican War: Declared May 11, 1846 by Congress a call for Volunteers was once again made in Lexington. Two Companies were formed almost immediately. The first Company was that of Captain Oliver H. P. Beard, and the second by Captain Cassius M. Clay. Both Companys were assigned to Col Humphrey Marshall Regiment. (my note: I would suggest that full name was probably Oliver Hazard Perry Beard after the famous Naval Officer of the Revoluntionary War)...You can read more at the web site... Both articles were transcribed from "History of Lexington, Kentucky: Its Early Annuls and Recent Progress" by Ranck Hope this helps....and Best Regards, Hal, from Northern California!
