    1. [KYFAYETT] Duncan Tavern & John Fox, Jr. Genealogical Library Closing
    2. Nancy Foley Johnson
    3. *Duncan Tavern and John Fox, Jr. Genealogical Library will close October 31 and not open until April 1, 2001* The Tavern, built in 1788 and now headquarters of the Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution, received two grants for renovation. The first grant for $200,000 will be used to repair roof, gutters, downspouts and foundation. The second grant for $100,000 is for electrical wiring, plumbing and plastering. Both grants are on the 80% - 20% basis. Because of some demolishing and extense repair, the adjoining John Fox, Jr. Library will also be closed. If all goes on schedule, both will reopen April 1, 2001. Board members ask for understanding and patience from the public. Kenney Roseberry, Chairperson John Fox, Jr. Library

    2. Dick Carter
    3. My John Carter Jr,born 1-2-1813, has been my BRICK WALL for about 30 years... He married somewhere in Ky, or Indiana about 1828-1830, an Eliza NUTTERFIELD/NUTTERFEE... He had a Brother JOB/JOBE who was deaf... Have been looking for his father for 30+ years...He was my gg grandfather. Any help would be appreciated...Eliza, I believe, was born in Shelby Ky,daughter of George and Nancy McWilliams NUTTERFIELD, But, who knows...One of my correspondants jokingly, I think, suggested that he, along with her John Carter, were deposited here as adults, with no ancestors, from an alien planet... I am not sure I go along with that, But, it is a better theory than I have been able to come up with... It would explain a lot... Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net

    3. Christine asked me to report how I made out with Transylvania University. I telephoned and the switchboard directed me to their Special Collections Librarian who was not in at the moment but the woman I spoke with was extremely helpful. I have ordered a book through interlibrary loan. In addition, I plan to write to the Special Collections Librarian. Nancy Johnson also contacted me with specific information regarding the College of the Bible which is now the Lexington Theological Seminary. Thus, I'm on my way. Thanks to all. 1. [KYFAYETT] College of the Bible Information
    2. Nancy Foley Johnson
    3. Hello Penny, If your Dr. McGarvey was connected with the College of the Bible, you might want to check their records with their librarian and their registrar. The name has been changed from College of the Bible to Lexington Theological Seminary. The librarian's name is Dr. Phil Dare. His e-mail is pdare@lextheo.edu. The seminary address is 631 South Limestone, Lex, KY 40508. I would imagine that old records for College of the Bible would be stored in the vault. The name was changed in the 50s, and old graduates were given the option of receiving "updated" diplomas saying LTS rather than COB. I would start with Phil, and if that is not the correct place, then Rachel Childress (rchildress@lextheo.edu), the registrar would be the next stop. I know there are privacy issues with regard to recent and current students, but for genealogical research, it may be different. John W. McGarvey was the president/co-founder of College of the Bible. There is a ton of information available about him. One source would be "Journey in Faith: A History of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by McAllister and Tucker, St. Louis: Chalice Press. I would suggest contacting Chalice Press to see what they have available, but also an interlibrary loan from the Seminary through any University or public library should work as well. The McAllister and Tucker work has 8 references with multiple pages to some of the references. McGarvey research should be no problem at all. The LTS web site is http:/www.lextheo.edu. From there you can get to the library, bookstore, etc. Good luck, Nancy Foley Johnson Lexington, KY

All I can do is give you the number (215) 627-1852. A quick phone call might get you an email addy or an address to write to. Good Luck!
