    1. [KYFAYETT] DUGAN
    2. Patty Kaliher
    3. Dear List, A distant cousin and I are trying to find ancestors for her grandfather James DUGAN. James is said to have been born July 1, 1857 in Lexington, KY. Could "some kind soul" check the 1860 census for a James DUGAN approximate age 3. A check of the 1870 census may find him at age 13 or the 1880 census at 23 but I would expect that the family was mobile during those years as he was married and living in Minnesota by 1884. Where would we find Catholic baptismal records for 1857? We greatly appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks, Patty Kaliher and Darlaine Dugan Martinez

    1. [KYFAYETT] BOWMAN (Rollcall)
    2. J & D McGuire
    3. I have been trying to find any information about James W. Bowman, his military company and unit, place and time of death, and that of his wife Ailsey. James W. Bowman was born in Virginia between 1810-15. His family moved to Roane Co, TN. He married Ailsey Hood there in 1840. He continued to live in the Roane Co, TN area. He was in the 1860 Roane Co, TN census. In the 1870 census he and his family are listed as living in the 6th Precinct of Lexington, KY. He also appears in the 1890 Veterans census. He is listed as living in Lexington, KY, but there is no company or unit numbers listed for him. I have not been able to find his Civil War records, as there are so many James Bowman listed, and this would be too expensive to request all the James Bowman files in the US Archives. I have always assumed that he served in Tennessee, but as I have nothing for him between 1860 and 1870, he could have been elsewhere. His grandmother died in 1869 and his father and a brother went to MO. Another brother went to Alabama. I had assumed that he moved to Kentucky when the rest of his brothers left the Roane Co, TN area, but it could have been any time between 1860 and 1870. There is a J. W. Bowman, age 80, listed in the May 6, 1893 death notice in the Lexington Leader. I think this is probably our James W. Bowman but even with his obit, I can't be sure. Diane

    1. [KYFAYETT] A Tale of Two Stories on Pritchett/Wilson
    2. Here are two histories collected on (my interest) William Pritchett/Pritchartt and Lydia Wilson I have collected. The information differs, but same people. The sources are included for reference. Begin: STORY # 1 Begin: Surname: Chamberlain, Ingles, Pritchett, Wilson History of Macon County, Illinois. With Illustrations Descriptive Of Its Scenery, and Biographical Sketches of some of its Prominent Men and Pioneers. Published by Brink, McDonough & Co., Phildelphia, 1880. Reproduced through efforts of The Decatur Genealogical Society, 1972. pp. 176-177 [Bourbon County]. THOMAS A. PRITCHETT. Among the gentlemen who have been most prominently identified with the interests of the western part of the county, is Thomas A. Pritchett, of Niantic. He is a native of Kentucky, and was born in Bourbon county, in the heart of the celebrated blue grass region, seven miles from Paris and nine from Lexington, on May 23d, 1830. The Pritchett family were early settlers of the state of Kentucky. Esquire Pritchett's father, Wm. Pritchett, was born in one of the southern counties, and married Lydia Wilson, a native of Fayette county, of the same place. The Wilsons were among the pioneer settlers of the state. They were originally from Maryland, and at an early day located near Bryant's Station - the scene of many of bloody conflict between the white pioneers and the hostile savages. Thomas A. Pritchett was the seventh of a family of nine children. Of these, one died in infancy; the others grew to be men and women. He now has one brother and two sisters living. His father was a farmer in good circumstances, and owned abut three hundred acres of choice land. When he was about twelve or fourteen his father died. The part of Kentucky in which he lived was well settled, and for that day had good schools. He lived at home until he was about twenty-one, during which time he acquired the substantial elements of an education. On the twenty-first of June, 1851, he married Mary E. Ingles, daughter of Wm. Ingles, who was born and raised in Bourbon County. He learned the trade of a saddle and harness maker, and from 1853 to 1856 carried on a harness and saddle shop at Paris, the county-seat of Bourbon county. He concluded to remove to Illinois, and in May 1856 arrived at Springfield, where he remained about a year. In the spring of 1857 he purchased Sec. 298 T. 17, R. 1 W., from the Illinois Central railroad company, and at once began the work of bringing it under cultivation. At that time there were few settlements on the prairie in Niantic township. Improvements had been made along the timber, but the prairie lay open and uncultivated. The Wabash railway had recently been put in operation through the western part of the county, and the town of Niantic had just begun its growth. In 1864 he entered into the mercantile business, which he has carried on ever since. He first started in the business of selling dry goods, with which he has since been more or less connected. He has been in business as long a time, consecutively, as any other business man now in Niantic. He has had nine children, of whom five are now living. The oldest daughter, Clara B., is the wife of James H. Chamberlain. The others now living are - James H., Mamie, Nettie C., and Ada S. The remaining four died in infancy. Esquire Pritchett is a man with whom the citizens of his part of the county have entrusted with several public positions. He was elected justice of the peace in 1860, and has filled that office from that time to the present with the exception of a few months, during which time he laid down the office voluntarily. He has made an acceptable magistrate. He possesses a thorough knowledge of the legal points usually arising in the jurisdiction of a justice of the peace, and has enough ability and fairness to apply the law in justice to all parties. For the last eight years he has also acted as notary public. After the adoption of township organization, he was elected the second member of the board of supervisors from Niantic township, filling the position during 1862. He has filled several other offices in the township. In his political opinions, like most Kentuckians, he was originally a member of the Whig party. After the Whig party went to pieces, he became a democrat, voted for Douglas in 1860, the first vote for President he cast in this state, and has been a democrat ever since. He is not, however, so strongly devoted to party that he can see no excellence in men of opposing views, and in local elections has generally cast his vote for the candidate whom he considered best qualified for the position. He is a man whose private character, and reputation for honesty and integrity have been above reproach. He has been connected with the Christian church for a number of years, and has served the church of that denomination at Niantic in the capacity of elder. He is now among the old residents of Niantic township, and with its business affairs has probably been as closely connected as any man in that part of the country. He is now carrying on a hardware and agricultural store at Niantic, a view of which appears among our illustrations of Niantic on another page. end STORY #2 Here is another story - same person - however this time he is called William Pritchell and wife Lydia Wilson...... Begin John T. Nutter, farmer; P. O. Georgetown; was born in Fayette county in 1830. His father's name was James Nutter, whose occupation was that of a farmer; born in Fayette county in 1798, and died in 1866. The maiden name of his mother was Mary Hurst, who was born in Fayette County in 1801 and died in 1851. His parents had seven children. He was educated in the primary schools of Fayette County, and began life as a farmer; was married in Bourbon in 1857, the maiden name of his wife being Agnes Pritchell; born in Bourbon in 1838 and whose father was William Pritchell, born in Virginia; her mother, Lydia Wilson, born in Fayette County. He has always been engaged in farming; has ten children, named as follows: Dora, Bettie, Emma, Susie, Leah, Maggie, Nannie, Keene, Waller and James; politics, Democratic. History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Ky., Edited by William Henry Perrin, O.L. Baskin and Co., Chicago, 1882.

This is Christine, your friendly (and kinda sheepish) listowner! Yes, there are two Christines on the mailing list, and I'm the one who offered to do lookups for the 1790 and 1820 (KY) Census indexes I have. I promise I will get them to you, but I'm still two papers and two sets of exercises away from free time. I was hoping to have some time over Thanksgiving, but things got complicated between my grandmother, parents, cousins, and an Aunt & Uncle who 'dropped by' from 600 miles away... The lookups are coming, I still have the requests! Meanwhile, maybe we should have a Roll Call? We've had some turn-over in the list members, and I know there are lots and lots of folks who still haven't posted their interests! Think of it as advertising--nobody will give you that vital tidbit of information unless they KNOW you're looking for the WHOSIFRAMUS surname!!! Hope you all had a peaceful & family filled Thanksgiving, Christine ==== KYFAYETT Mailing List ==== To unsubscribe, send a message with only the word 'unsubscribe' to KYFAYETT-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or KYFAYETT-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM, depending if you receive 'list mode' or 'digest mode'. 1. [KYFAYETT] Beach, Tillou, Stafford, Birch
    2. I am researching the following families and would appreciate any additional information anyone can add to these families. Stephen Birch married Nancy Ward on Jan. 1, 1795. Marriage performed by James Crawford and recorded in Shane Manuscript. Their son James H. Birch married Sarah Holstead in October 1825 in Fayette County, KY. Sarah Tillou, ward of Jabez Beach and sister of Maria Tillou Beach (Jabez' wife), married Joseph Stafford in Fayette County, KY in 1827. Joseph Stafford died before 1833. On March 25, 1834, in Fayette County, KY Henry Beach married Sarah Tillou Stafford. Bondsman for the marriage was James H. Birch. Stephen D. Birch, son of James H. Birch and Sarah Holstead, married Sarah Ann Beach (born 1838), daughter of Henry Beach and Sarah Tillou Stafford. The Tillou family came from New Jersey to Fayette County, KY. The line of Jabez Beach was also from New Jersey. The line of Henry Beach and James H. Birch was from Virginia. I am looking for ancestors of any of these people. Jabez Beach has a traceable lineage but Henry is not from this line in any documented records I have found. The Lexington Beach line were famous as Carriage makers and harness makers. They were connected with Ashton and Beach the coach makers in Lexington ca. 1820-1840. Thanks so much. Sincerely, MichaelAnne Guido PS I am also looking for information on Robert A. Rankin born in Fayette County, KY in 1793. He is the son of Rev. Adam Rankin and Martha MacPheeters.

    1. Re: [KYFAYETT] Wilson, Thomas, McClellan(d), Criswell, Perry, Miller, White, ...
    2. Hello, Also have an interest in the name Wilson and Perry, but only what I have collected on various individuals. I have a Henry Perry who married Polly Adams from Fayette KY but can trace him no further. His date of death is important to my line. The Wilsons and there were many, seemed to marry into the Boone line. Abner Wilson had alot to do with the Davids Fork Baptist Church and is mentioned in the records alot. He had a son Abner also and many Wilson decendents. Have collected several articles on Wilsons, one says they came from Maryland, and another mentions VA, and PA. One thing for certain, they were early pioneers I believe at the time of Daniel Boone. Seems there is a group of Wilsons in Madison Kentucky and the ones in Fayette, later Bourbon County Ky. I have been tracking the Wilsons down because I believe my ancestor William Pritchart married Lydia Wilson, daughter of Abner Wilson. Just can't figure it out. Look forward to what you can tell. 1. [KYFAYETT] Snider, Varble and Maxwell in Fayette Co.
    2. Dianne Erwin
    3. Researching John Snider who married Polly Varble in Fayette Co., KY in 1805. They had a son, William, in Fayette in 1806. Polly was the daughter of Philip and Caty Varble who also lived in Fayette Co. Philip's will was probated there in the early 1830's. Polly was listed as "Polly's Heirs" so it is assumed that she had died by that time. John was still alive in 1826 when William married Mary Sandusky Maxwell in Fayette Co. William and Mary later moved to Oldham Co., KY by the 1830 census and then to Greene Co., IL in about 1833-34, with children of the Philip and Henry Varble families. They were brothers. William and Mary Snider moved to Collin Co., TX in 1845 and lived there until their deaths. John Snider may have left Fayette Co., but I don't have any information on this. He could also have remarried. I don't know of any children other than William, but am sure there could be more. Please contact me at erwin1@neto.com if you have information.
