Records go back to the 17th Century. It is quite possible that his descendents or those of his brothers went to PA. Georgetown in D.C. was named after Ninian's brother George Beall. I know we are to start with ourselves and work "up" the line; however, if early records are extensive (and Maryland's are) then it is possible to make a connection working "down" the line by getting list of children, copies of will's, etc. There is also a Beall list on rootsweb. Happy hunting! Dorsey in Texas. Joan Stevens wrote: > > Hello, > I am new to the list. My Fayette County families are Martha Breckinridge Steele b. ca 1786 Fayette County, married Robert M. 3. Hi All again......message from Virginia Thomson asked if this could be Holladay......yep, she's right I did a boo-boo....... For Virginia, thanks for message. A quick look indicates there are several Benjamin's in this small document. I will try to separate them. A Wiliam Holladay (Joseph, John) had a son Benjamin born Nov 11, 1806 and died Nov 30, 1807......William had another son (11 children total) named Joseph 1797-1824 who had a son Benjamin Lewis Holladay born Apr 1823 died Aug 1866, C.S.A. Married 1 a Johnson and 2 a Dillard. Served Co. D 30th Virginia Infantry; Capt Ben Rawlings under Colonel Robert Chew, CSA. A Joseph Holladay (John) of "Elmwood" on E.N.E. Creek in Virginia (Spots Co)...born? died July 24, 1795 had 11 children including a John that went to Clark Co., KY about 1795 and died May 21, 1819 killed by a hogshead of tobacco being rolled down a hill to a boat crushing his leg had children in Louisa Co., VA names unknown except John who married a Winston.......Joseph names a son Benjamin in Will but data only reads "Benjamin. 20 x Thomas" Joseph was Inspector of Tobacco at Fredericksburg, VA succeeding his brother John in 1761 and re-appointed with his Brother Benjamin in Jan 1777. A Holladay held the position for over 50 years. His son Lewis was a Major of Spots Co Militia marrying into the Lewis Littlepage family (Elizabeth Littlepage). John Holladay (Captain): of Spots Co. died there Nov 1742 Will dated Nov 4, 1742 probated Dec 7, 1742 names sons Joseph (above); Benjamin; Will identifies residence as "plantation" on East N.E. Creek in South West Spots Co., called "Bellefonte" He was buried there as was his GS Lewis (above) and his Son-in-Law William Waller. This John Holladay is mentioned frequently in Virgina Records as "John the Ranger". John is thought to have been son of Jonah Holladay who first recorded land in 1711 in Norfolk Co., VA. Misc: James W. Holladay was an old soldier of 1812 dying in Grant Co., KY 1872. Zachary Holladay was RW Pensioner in Adams Co., KY in 1840. James Holladay was Member Kentucky Legislature from Nicholas Co. 1848 and John B. Holladay in 1851-1853 Hope this helps somewhat.....Ohhhhhh, source is Virginia Genealogies by Hayden, Gen Pub Co. 1979....Foster Library, Ventura Co., CA (929.) Hal, from sunny Northern California!

    3. Dave, I did think at one time that John had been married before because of two listings in a book, "Kentucky Obituaries": Sarah A., daughter of J. B. and Sarah Morton, of Lexington. Died June 10, 1853, aged 3 months and 3 days. Caroline, daughter of J. B. and Sarah Morton, of Lexington. See above. Died July 17, 1853, aged 1 year, 9 months, and was sister to above. 3. My name is Susan Hudspeth, and I'm new to this list. I hope someone can help me with the following families: My 2nd gr-grandfather, John B. MORTON, was born between 1827-1831 in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY. I'm looking for his parents. I believe they were William R. MORTON and Elizabeth James BRADFORD, who were married March 6, 1830 in Fayette Co. A note written by my gr-grandmother, Gabriella (MORTON) BOLINGER (dau. of John B. MORTON), states that his mother's name was Eliza Jane BRADFORD and that she had a brother, Isaac A. BRADFORD. Thanks, Susan

He married Mary Harmon in Clark County, Indiana, 1842 Cyrus Johnson was born January 1834.....this is where I have conflicting information...Cyrus' obit says "he was a Kentuckian by birth" but all census records that I find say he was born in Indiana. Anyone having information on either or both of these Johnson's, PLEASE contact me. I have been facing a brick wall with them for some time now. Both of these men eventually moved and resided in Atchison County, Missouri. Cyrus died 15 August 1903. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Jerrre Johnson Robertson

    2. Rosalyn Shrock
    3. Hi Christine: So as not to burden your stack of lookups, put these requests at the end of the line for whever the "dust settles". All of these should be in Fayette County: In 1790, Thomas Shrock, with son John Shrock, then age 2, and possible wife, if still living. In 1820: Walter Prather and wife Mary (Irvine). Of particular interest is how many, if any, children the couple had. There should be a son, William, then age 1 or 2. Also in this year there should be John Shrock and wife Rebecca (Prather), but, probably no children. Bless you for your unflagging willlingness to help in this important work.
