I am trying to find the location of a company called Warfield, Brand, & Co. (also called Warfield, Brand, Hunt & Co.), which operated from 1827 until at least 1855, perhaps later much later. The company was located on a large (194 acres) parcel of land somewhere in the Leestown Road/Town Branch area. I vaguely recall reading something that led me to believe the property was near Main and Newtown and bordered an area called "the meadows," but I could be completely wrong about this. One landmark I have definitely seen associated with the property was a place called McDowell's Corner. Does anyone know where any of these landmarks were located in the 1827-1873 timeframe?
I too have purchased books from this company and can say they were honest and speedy. The prior 2-23-05 below refers to Fayette Co, Tax Lists I am not sure who the reply came from, but If some kind person would take time to check the 1790 thru 1802 tax lists for John Heim or aka Himes, I would surely appreciate it. He is my husbands gggg grfather, He was born in York, PA but I know he was in Fayette Co, KY as his first son Samuel Heim or Himes was born in Fayette co, KY in 1789 and the family was there till about 1803 when they went to Ohio. Thanks in advance. I am not sure what info will be shown on the tax lists, but I am also looking for his wifes name....of which I have tried numerous places with nothing more than Mrs. John Himes. If found, it will give me some more proof that they in indeed were there.... ..but records do show their first child Samuel was b in Fayette Co, KY, perhaps more children. Thanks so much for your help. LDS Film # 7957 Fayette County KY Tax Books After 1790 it appears that different sections of the county were listed separately. Patrick, Stephen, Robert, & William Davis seem to be in one district in 1791. 1791 List # 2 includes Leo Davis, Septimus Davis, Nathaniel Davis, Edw. Davis, Richd Davis, Ben Davis, John Davis, William Davis. 1792 List # 3 includes Leond Davis, Edwd David, Nathan Davis, Jno Davis I checked these lists from 1787 through 1802. The 1791 list was the only one with a John Davis listed. I was looking for a John Davis, son of Richard & Margaret Davis. Their other sons were Edward, Aaron, Solomon, & Nathaniel Davis. We think that Richard & Margaret came from Maryland to Fayette County, KY. Richard died in Fayette about 1797-99; Margaret died in Madison County, KY in 1808. ==== KYFAYETT Mailing List ==== Welcome to the KYFAYETT mailing list! Roxanne, If I could ask one more favor....For the info on the Perrins book so I can list as a source....thanks so much Lynette
Roxanne, Thanks so much for the time you have taken in finding and sending me the info on my Beard Family and Daly Family.....I would definately be interested in the account Capt. Beard gives of the battle at Buena Vista? on pg. 440 of the Perrin's book.....Again thanks so much for the time you have taken with this info for me....Lynette
Dear Lynette, I found 1 Daly in Perrin's book. Lawrence Daly is listed as being a private in Capt. Oliver H. Beard's Company that fought the Mexicans in Texas (page 439) and a member of the "Old Infantry" (page 444). O.P. Beard is listed as being elected as a director in 1867 to the Kentucky Society for promoting Agriculture (page 124). He is also mentioned as one of "the principal racing names" in regard to horses (166). A J. H. Beard, "the American Landseer," visited Lexington & painted portraits (375). Col. Beard is listed as 3rd assistant Marshall in the parade to greet Gen. LaFayette in 1825 (405). Henry Beard was in Hart's Company for the War of 1812 (420). Captain Oliver H. P. Beard Company was attached to Col. Humphrey Marshall's regiment in the Mexican War in 1846 & fought at Buena Vista (436). On page 440 Capt. Beard gives an account of the battle. If you're interested I'll scan it & email it to you. Page 441 says Capt. Beard left with 78 men & returned with 43. O.P. is listed as a private in the Lexington Guards, the last military company formed by the city. On page 556 it mentions how R. M. Adams served in the Mexican War as a member of Company K, First Kentucky Calvary under Captain O. P. Beard. Page 574, in 1836 Thomas Bradley married Isabel, "daughter of Henry Beard, of Fayette whose family lineage is traced from Scotland. Col Beard, while a soldier in 1812-13, was captured by the Indians at the River Raisin, ran the gantlet, escaped, received his discharge at Niagara Falls, and returned on foot, to his home in Lexington." A last mention is made on page 655 about how Gen. John H. Morgan served with Capt. Beard at Buena Vista. While I was browsing the Internet earlier I found this entry for a Sarah Beard: Sarah Beard - Fayette County Will Book A, page 406 - Names sons, William Beard, Joseph Beard; granddaughters, Nancy McGowan, Sally Beard, (daughter of Joseph), Sally Beard (daughter of Wm. Beard). Written September 30, 1805; probated October, 1806. Executors - Wm. Beard, Joseph Beard. Witnesses - F. Cosby, John Bryant, John Henderson. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyfayett/ardery_mcadams_estate_abstracts.htm Happy researching. Roxanne
To "Thehensons" - thank you for looking at the tax lists for me! We don't know for sure who "our" John Davis's father was, but believe at this time it was Matthew (m Elizabeth Mabry), and that they came from NC to TN. Margaret Lindsey Smith
I noticed this list has been so active..............if anyone is interested in donating their family files to the Bourbon Library, please contact. We will take anything and everything! They don't have to be perfectly neat or organized. You can put your contact information on them if you wish or not. Kellie
I didn't notice that the old subject line was for Beard & Daly, so I'm resending this under the right names. Dear Pat, I checked all of my books and couldn't find anyone with the names you mentioned. I did find an H.P. Perrins (who is listed as a principal of the commercial department at "the Academy") and a Dr. Lewis Perrine (who married Elizabeth Hinde, daughter of Dr. John W. Hinde, on Nov. 7, 1838). There were some Forbes listed (a Captain and a James), but that's about it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Roxanne

Roxanne: Yes, I have found a location of a copy of Espy's Journal, but as of yet have not been able to travel to go see it. Just a matter of time. Thanks for your help on both lookups. Glenn
The 1911-1930 Fayette County Kentucky birth index is available on the Fayette County KYGenWeb site ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyfayett/fayette.htm ). Nancy Trice was kind enough to contribute a couple of fairly large birth data files which are now sorted and divided by year. Enjoy! You have perked my interest in the Frost name. My wife's grandfather was John Rockett (l870-l961) who we understand was born in the Louisville/Lexington area of KY. His mother's name has been given as Elizabeth Frost, thus I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Rockett/Frost marriages? Many thanks.
Hi. I found a mention of Hugh Foster in Perrin's History of Fayette Co., Ky. On page 846 it reads, "Glass Marshall....was first married to Martha Ann Foster, a native of Lexington, daughter of Hugh Foster. She died in 1833, leaving one child, now deceased." Roxanne
Does anyone have any information on Hugh Foster who lived in Fayette Co. in the early 1800s?
