    3. Hal, Here is what I found at the Lexington library on Irvings. The first entry I found was in the 1890 city directory: Henry Irving msg boy for W.U.T. and Co. res at 96 N Upper Laetitia L. wd Thomas res at 96 N. Upper Margaret L. In the 1895 city directory were the following: David Irving C.S. Depot res 96 N. Upper Henry plumber " " Maria domestic servant Mary wd. Dudley 54 DeWeese Thomas hostetler " " William plumber 96 N. Upper Hope this helps in your search. 3. Alan, fantastic...just fantastic.....This Henry Irving was my Grand Father....at 16 yrs a messenger for Western Union Telegraph Co....and 96 N Upper was the old homeplace of Letitia's father, Samuel Long, a noted builder in Lexington in the first half of the 1800's...Margaret L is Margaret Long, known later as Aunt Molly Long. With all that said....I am mystified regarding the 1895 Directory.....There is my Grandfather, now 21, working as a plumber which he continued throughout his life. William, plumber, is Henry's younger Brother born 1876......but I have no inkling regarding a David Irving living in the same household......I have never heard of a David Irving in conjunction with this family....perhaps it's back to the drawing board with a new name.......I have a copy of Thomas & Letitia Marriage return but not the license or the application which might tell more about my Thomas....Henry married Mayme Rogers (who had a brother Deweese) in 1898 with this William and Mayme's Sister as witnesses..... I also have no idea regarding Maria, Mary, Thomas listed but think maybe you indicated their residence at 54 N Upper. Your data also proves that Thomas Irving was definitely gone from the house hold by 1890 and his family was living with Aunt Molly Long at 96 N Upper... ....and Letitia is listed as a "Widow".. Would there be any further data David Irving in later Directories? or other sources???? Would appreciate any direction you could offer. I will of course go directly to Family Research Library to search for a David Irving......Would be pleased to reimburse any expenses... Thanks Again, Alan..... 3. Hal, Here's a newspaper article citation for the Thomas Irving trial you mentioned (it's from the Lexington Public Library online newspaper index which is a work in progress and a fantastic resource). I didn't locate another reference pertaining to this, but at least this one will put you in the ball park if you ever want to look into the story. [Lexington Kentucky] Leader, 21 April 1889, p. 5 col. 4 Headline: At the Point of Death Abstract: The mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Charles Edgar has been cleared up, as he has been heard from; but he writes furthermore that he is at the point of death. Tom Irving, his assailant, is still out on bail, awaiting his examining trial, which is set for Wednesday next. 3. Thanks Mary for the info...much too early for my Thomas who was born 1839 or 1840 in Scotland. Family history tells me that Letitia was a "battleaxe" and Thomas could no longer stand to live with her after last child was born 1876. He is said to have left the family with all property intact and with something like "shirt on back" and just walked away. Family story saids that a Lexington attorney report several years later that he had talked with Thomas at a cattle sale in St Louis, MO about 1885 and that Thomas said that he was returning to Scotland. I have found nothing to confirm or dispute this. One evening while scanning Lexington records I saw a brief newspaper article noting that Thomas Irving of Lexington was to stand trial in the shooting of another resident...I jotted down the data and have been unable to locate it since that evening. This shooting would have occurred around late 1880's and was report in a Lexington Newspaper.. I have visited Letitia's grave in the Long Family Plot in Lexington Cemetery, and understand that the old house at 212 N. Upper St is no longer there....Thomas built three red brick homes just south of the new Court House several blocks but when there in 1988 I could not locate these houses. They were a corner lot and two lots to the east. There was a main street running N & S at that location.... Thanks again. Old Hal

    2. Lot 39 Part N1/2 I don't know if this is your Thomas or not; you can call the cemetery and they the records. They will be able to tell you who was on the certificate as his spouse. Also, Central Kentucky Library has the death records on microfilm now up to 1954 so you can any of these. Mary

    2. Hal, I was checking Heritage Quest for you tonight and this is what I found: 1900 census Letitia is living with Robert McClure Margarite WIfe Robert Edward Long Margarite Letitia listed as age 59 bearing three children all living and is a widow. She was born in Indiana, her Dad in Kentucky and Mother in Indiana. Robert McClure is listed as a news reporter in this censu; not until the 1910 Census does it say he is a photographer owning his own business. Letitia is still living with them in 1910. I could not find Thomas in the 1890 Census, so he apparently died between 1880 and 1900 when she is listed as a widow. Mary

I will check in a bit to see how far the city directories go back; they are located in the Central Kentucky Library downtown Lexington in the Kentucky Room. Mary

    3. Alan, noted your volunteering to check something at the library in Lexington...Good for you!!! With that said, would appreciate any information regarding a Thomas Irving that married Letitia Long 2 July 1868 at Christ Church Lexington. He was a Scot that came to USA ?; married, had three children: Margaret Irving, 1870, that married Robert Lee McClure of Lexington Photography fame; Henry L Irving, b 1874 (my GF); and William Irvin, b 1876.....I have obtained marriage license for Letitia and Thomas from Frankfort Library...Would like marriage application if it exists....Thomas was listed as a farmer in Census 1880 but disappeared from family a few years later...Letitia lived out years with married dau above ay 212 N Upper St dying in March 1916. Would City Directories show this family 1870/1880/1890??? Would Lexington City Hall have marriage application for this period......any assistance would be appreciate... Old Hal, from rainy Northern California!
