    1. [KYFAYETT] Thomas E. Quisenberry in Lexington
    2. Roxanne Haslem
    3. Hello. I looked through the Fayette Co archives and didn't find anyone researching this name, but maybe someone lurking is interested. On eBay they are selling an 1851 envelope to a Thomas E. Quiesenberry in Lexington from an I. F. M. Millard (?) in Carlisle. There's no letter, just the envelope. I'm not connected to the auction in anyway - I'm just a genealogy geek who thinks it would be cool to have something like this involving an ancestor. The url is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9504861646&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1 The Fayette County families that I'm interested in are: Armstrong, Browning, Cavin(s), Dudley, Irvin(e), Lewis, Lyle, and Scott.

    1. Marriage Lookup Short and Wariner
    2. Charlotte E Flock
    3. I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If anything the marriage could taken place alot eariler then 1870 but not later then 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte

    2. Hi A. J. That's my grandson's initials too! (Andrew James) He's a sweetheart also. Thanks for your response to my posting. I have looked and looked for the marriage record of John Price and Sarah Bourne. I have seen it reported that it is in Frederick Co., VA but I can't find it. Do you happen to know where it is located or if there even is one? Suspect your Abner was related to Andrew Bourn who left a will in 1790 in Culpeper Co., VA. He doesn't name him so was he a grandson or possibly a nephew? It is Andrew's daughter, Sarah, who is believed to have married John Price. Wasn't aware that the Haydon family was connected to the Bournes. Were they married while in VA or after they got to KY? Do you know what year your Bourn family migrated to KY and did they go directly to Fayette County? I would also be interested if you know if any of the descendants of John Price and Sarah Bourn ever kept in contact through the years. I would love to find some of their descendants. 3. The file I have on these early families is with info I have in preparation for a small book on Higbee based on its newspaper which was printed from l887-l948. Somewhere I have a copy of the DAR file on Elisha Higbee, I believe it was, which, like so many, claims he stood guard outside Gen'l Washington's tent. As someone has said, that must have been the best guarded tent in history! Jos. Higbee was the progenitor of the Higbee clan in our vicinity, dying there in l849 according to probate documents. One daughter married John Bourn(e), I believe it was, and some sources claim there was a village therabouts named Bournsville (one map calls it Bernsville) before MK&T railroad came through ca l872. It is interesting that the town site and depot lands were from the Burton and Owens farms, but the town was named Higbee. There are a few hereabouts who descend from Jos. Higbee through the Christian & Kitty Higbee Collins line....most themselves Burton descendants. One of Christian Collins daughters married a Dysart, which was possibly the third family to settle in what is now Randolph County (it and Chariton were originally part of Howard, then it was Chariton and Randolph together, and eventually they were divided.) The Collins/Dysarts were strong Southern sympathizers, and the skirmish at Roan's tanyard took place not far from their home. From what I've been able to put together, many of those who settled in and about the Higbee townsite came from Jesamine Co, KY, including the Higbees. The Owens did, I believe. There is what was originally called the Rennolds family cemetery that in later years became known as the Burton family cemetery. May Burton, Sr., is the old man of that family, which was originally from Orange Co, VA, and he served in the Revolution. If you have specific questions, I'll do my best to respond.

    2. Carey...I think we hit pay dirt! I know more about the beginning of the Higbee family in KY, who came from NJ, than I know of their offspring. I would love for you to expand on the Bourne connection to this family. The Heads and Ruckers are connected to my Price family too. Many of the Prices went to Clay Co. MO but my William Evans Price, son of John Price and Susannah Gano, settled in Howard County near the Chariton border. He went by the name Evans and he was killed by marauders during the Civil War. I understand that he and his wife, as well as at least a daughter, are buried on the old home place. I do believe our Price family is connected to Pugh Price of Prince Edward Co., VA, but I haven't been able to make a direct link yet. This is Gen. Sterling Price's line so if anyone connects to him and has had their DNA tested, I would love to compare kits! 1. Re: [KYFAYETT] Price, Prewitt (Pruitt), Graves, Bryan, and Moss Family Connections in VA and KY.
    2. I do believe your Graves family is the one connected to our Prices. Susan Gano Price married Joseph Graves in 1842 in Fayette Co. KY and went to TX. They had a son, John Coleman and a son, Evan, as well as other children. Joseph died by 1860 and Susan was in the household of her brother, John H. Price, in the 1880 census of Clay Co., MO. Joseph was the son of John C. Graves. (His father was Joseph, John, John, Thomas, Thomas, Thomas...from Genealogy of The Family of Captain Thomas Graves of VA.) I am pretty sure John H. and Susan Price were the children of Evan Price and Catherine Higbee of Fayette County. I am looking for a descendant of this Evan Price. The Dudleys were very active in the Baptist Churches in this area of KY also and I know they knew our Prices. Ambrose Dudley (1750-1826) raised a company and served in the Virginia Line. He removed to Kentucky and was pastor of the historic Bryan Station Church. He was born in Virginia; died in Fayette County, Ky. (This is from the DAR application of Miss Elizabeth Price, granddaughter of Winfrey Ebenezer Price. Elizabeth's mother was a Dudley.--ljdt) According to the same book quoted above, there was a Thomas Coleman Graves who also died in the Battle of River Raisin. It's possible that Thomas and Benj. were brothers, but I can't remember for sure. As far as I know, the Moss connection to the Prices probably started in Halifax County VA, but sounds like one ended up with not so good a reputation in MO or did he earn it honestly? You know what they say: "You can pick your friends, but not your relatives!" Don't know if he is related or not but I do know I am trying to find a Price/Moss connection in VA!--Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carey Bankhead" <carey_bankhead@yahoo.com> To: <KYFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 10:18 AM Subject: Re: [KYFAYETT] Price, Prewitt (Pruitt), Graves, Bryan, and Moss Family Connections in VA and KY. > Who are the Graves people involved? 1. Price, Prewitt (Pruitt), Graves, Bryan, and Moss Family Connections in VA and KY.
    2. Col. William Price (wife, Mary Cunningham) settled in Fayette Co., KY before it became Jessamine County. His son, James C. Price (killed at River Raisin) was born in Halifax Co., VA in 1779. His daughter, Mary, married Col. Joseph Prewitt (Pruitt) of Jessamine County. Joseph was first married to Leah Moss, "possibly" of Halifax Co. VA. In Green and Adair counties KY there is a strong Moss/Price family presence as well. I am in contact with a descendant of a William Price who has a Graves and Moss family connection in Green and Adair counties. His family seems to have come from Halifax County VA too and also is an exact DNA match with descendants of the above Col. William Price and John Price referred to in the next paragraph. We have recently found from DNA, that a descendant of John Price (wife, Susannah Gano, daughter of Rev. John Gano) is an exact DNA match with a descendant of Col. William Price. John Price married Betsey Major in Woodford County KY in the early 1790's. He most likely resided in Fayette County before Woodford was formed and then he died in Franklin in 1836. Col. William Price's son, Winfrey Ebenezer, made a statement that his father was born in Prince Edward County VA, not Stafford County VA as has been widely accepted. Pugh Price's family ended up in KY early and I personally believe John and William are of his family. General Sterling Price is a descendant of Pugh Price so I would love to hear from anyone with connections to him also. I do have the book by Vina Chandler which gives good clues that help on this family, but I'm looking for more primary evidence. Before going to KY, William Price's family moved to Spotsylvania County, VA area. It appears to me they belonged to a Baptist church that bordered on Orange County, VA. Both John and William Prices families were strong Baptists, some starting for KY in 1781 with Lewis Craig's "Travelling Church". I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who descends from William or John Price or Joseph Prewitt or anyone who connects to these men through the Moss, Bryan or Graves families. The Bryan family lived in Northern Neck VA area before they went to North Carolina and then on to early KY. Please let me hear from you if you have any of these connections or interests. You are welcome to contact me personally if you would rather at: MYANCESTRY@peoplepc.com Thank you for your time.--Linda

    2. Patterson, Robert L., Jr.
    3. Hello list, I am researching my paternal line. I have found my 3rd great grandfather, Jonathan Patterson in Spencer and Muhlenberg Counties. Perrin lists his father as William. His mother is not named but, it has been suggested that it may have been Lucy Mangum. I have found research notes to that effect at the Bullitt Co. KY site, under the "Quicknotes". This source also suggests Shelby Co. as his residence. He and his wife appear to be deceased before the Jan 1812 wedding of Sally Patterson to Thomas Cook, in Shelby Co., KY. My interest is now focused on the half brother of Col. Robert Patterson, of Lexington, William Patterson. Charlotte Reeve Conover wrote much on these two brothers. Is anyone on this list familiar with Robert's family? I have read that Robert's half brother William also lived in Shelby Co. In fact, there are two Williams in the 1810 Shelby Co. census. Robert's information seems to be spread all over the place. Besides Wright State University, I have read that some of his papers were given to Lyman Draper, for his work and not returned. Does anyone know about this material? I think it may be more specific to Robert and William's KY ventures. Thanks in advance, -- Robs

    1. "Students" in 1860 census records
    2. Carolyn Johnson
    3. There are numerous students listed on page 10 of the 1860 census for Fayette County. Does anyone know the name of the facility where they resided? And is there any remote possibility someone knows anything about the student named Jabers Anderson? Any help is greatly appreciated.
