Listers: This appeared on the Madison Co List today. I have gone in and found lots of family names and I hope you will too. Good hunting, Nancy Foley Johnson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have been advised by e-mail by the web master of the Virginia Department of transportation that the pre-Revolutionary [as I remember] road orders now has its own web site. He gave me this URL: _http://vtrc.virginiadot.org/PUBS.aspx_ (http://vtrc.virginiadot.org/PUBS.aspx) As many North Carolinians and Kentuckians (and possibly South Carolinians), and even post Revolutionary Georgians had Virginia roots, it may be worthwhile doing a search for your surnames. These are a little difficult to differentiate from other publications, but as I remember these are the main authors of these Road Orders: Do a name search for the authors: Pawlett, Nathaniel Mason (sometimes with Howard Newton) Young, Douglas Jay, K. Edward Miller, Ann Brush Boyd, Tyler Jefferson These do NOT pertain to every county in Virginia, but if your people were in colonial Virginia, its worth a search or two or three or four. Pass this info along to your genealogical buddies and cousins. E.W.Wallace ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ==== MADKY Mailing List ==== Madison Co. Dear Lena, I looked for Henry in the 1880 census at FamilySearch.org, and found a 14 year old Henry Steele living in Scott County, Ky. He is living with his parents, Henry (aged 44) and Mary (42), along with his brothers and sisters, Hiram (18), Mary J. (16), Allen (12), Minnie (9), and Betty (6). Hope this helped. I am trying to help a friend find her Steele roots & other family roots since she has only discovered her Mom's side of the family (her Mom died in 1965 when she was only one year old). Her grandfather is a Clarence Steele who was born in Kentucky in 1897 & was first married to a Nell Waders (per 1920 Census, they are listed with her Dad & the last name looks like Waders). Clarence & Nell had two children, Kenneth L. Steele & Judith A. Steele (Clarence's second wife was a Dora/Doris Robinson). We think per the 1900 Fayette County, Census that he may be the son of Henry & Rebecca Steele. I am having problems finding Henry prior to 1900 though he lists his birthplace & that of his parents as Kentucky. I believe the problem lies in not knowing his birth year since Fayette County only gives birth month & not birth month & year compared to other states. His month of birth is listed as August & his age as 34, with the census being taken in June I believe he was born in 1865. There other children are listed as Lester, Eva M., Henry R., & Annie. Sandi just found out who her Mom's parents were this week & I would greatly appreciate any help which will enable her to know her Mom's family. Thank You, Lena --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.
Trying to locate the tombstone of my Rev. War ancestor buried on his farm just south of Lexington! Have located an old cemetery by satellite in the area where the farm was supposed to be, but can't find anything online with a record of old cemeteries listing a Whaley. I'm assuming no one has recorded this particular family plot. James' will of 1826 designated an area of "four square poles" to be set aside for his burial site. The msg. below was sent to me some time ago by someone who was trying to help us search for this cemetery: (This cemetery is just south and east of) 5180 Athens-Walnut Hill Pike, Cave Spring Farm. On the stone post is the # and "Cassidy" so don't know if that is the present owner or not. The marker says: "Home of Capt. Robert Boggs, b. 1746 Mill Creek Hundred DE, moved to VA,, soldier in the Revolution. Came first to KY in 1774 as chain man of Col. John Floyd's survey party, one of the founders of Boonesboro, officer of Cherokee expedition 1776, under Geo. Washington 1777-81, took up KY land totalling 2276 acres, Cave Spring home began in 1784, completed 1792, quaint, substantial Georgian stone house." Now we know we are on the right track and I will have more info to give the grave reg. people. One of the deeds says Whaley's land is touching Robert Boggs, rec. July 1788 DB B, p. 119. Look this over -- or if you did get this information -- and let me know what you think. Does this jibe with what you have? This land is in rural Fayette Co, off US Hwy. 25 and very near I-75 South, about 5 miles from the KY river. Any suggestions anyone???? Carolyn Carolyn Whaley Vosburg Houston, TX

I'm looking for info on Charles RICE who appears in the 1790 Fayette County census. There are two entires for a Charles Rice in the census index. Does anyone know if this was one person or two? I know that my ancestor Charles Rice died in Madison County in 1809 and I think that this is the same person that was in Fayette County in 1790. Does anyone know anything about the Charles Rice in Fayette County? Any information would help? Thanks. John RICE
