    1. [KYFAYETT] Elon and Samuel Payne
    2. Liz McAsey
    3. I have two cousins of my grandmother both born in England and who came with their mother Catherine Payne [nee Adams] on the Idaho from Liverpool in 1870 .Their father Charles came in 1869,Charles and Catherine were in Boyd County in 1910 and Charles as a widower with his son Charles Moyse Payne in Boyd County in 1920. I think we have found them in the in 1900 census, Elon Payne married to Elizabeth was living at Mount Hope Queensbury FayetvilleDistrict , he had three daughters then Maggie , Annie , Nettie .I think Elon may have died a year or so later. The other cousin was Samuel Payne who was in the Kanawha District in 1900 married to Annie with children Cecil , Miscenia , John, Willie. I have a possible death forSamuel in Boyd County in 1956 and in 1930 he may be in Ffloyd county remarried to Anna . I would be grateful if anyone had any further information on these two families , I think it is possible that they may have grandchildren still in that area. Thank you if you can help. Liz

    2. Fern
    3. I want to invite the list to visit my new BUFORD web site at: www.bufordfamilies.com Kentucky has been the stomping ground for the BUFORD family since the 1700's and I know there are a lot that are still stomping around Kentucky. I hope this new site will be of interest to some of you on this list. Please add it to your favorites as I will be adding a lot more material as time permits. Would love to get any comments or advice that you might have. As this is my first attempt at a Web Page I know I will probably make a bunch of mistakes and boo boos. Best wishes to all and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS......... Fern K. Buford Walker

    2. Jane Foley
    3. To access the free three days, I went to the goodmorning america homepage and there was a link to ancestry for the free trial. This is the link to good morning america: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/ On the right side of this page is a link to the free trial. Look for Recent GMA Stories. You have to click on "Chris Cuomo traces his roots back to Italy". Then you have to click on Related: GMA Special: Trace Your Family Tree for Free. You will have to upload a gedcom when it asks you to. I hope this helps! Jane Foley

    3. While there might be a few random early records in Virginia, records issued in Kentucky while still a part of Virginia remained in Kentucky in the respective counties upon Kentucky becoming its own Commonwealth. Fire (arson) destroyed most of the early records in 1803. Those that remain and some are quite fire damaged, are labeled "Burnt Records". Marriages, Deeds & so forth; are pretty much gone before 1803. Tax Rolls do remain. Early Newspapers also. "Fayette County, Virginia (later Kentucky) was formed from Kentucky County, Virginia. One of the first three counties of Kentucky (with Lincoln and Jefferson Counties), it was created on 30 Jun 1780. Most records for before 31 Jan 1803 were destroyed by fire. A second fire on 14 May 1897 also destroyed some early records." http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~harrisonrep/Census/kycounty.htm. You might be able to call the Fayette County Clerk's Office to see if they know someone who works in their old records. (Unless the records have been sent to Frankfort???) 2. Jessamine formed from Fayette in 1798. This is an excellent website for county formations. Look on the left side for the 'County Formations' link, then look for Kentucky under the 'Rotating Maps' heading: http://genealogyinc.com/map_census.html Good luck! Jane

    2. Jeannette Maxey was looking for a researcher for Fayette Co, KY. She said she was looking at the 1790s befor Jessamine Co was split off. My husbands ancestral John Himes was in Fayette Co, KY about 1790, did the Fayette Co. split off into Jessamine Co. KY as I have not been able to find anything about he and his family and they lived in Fayette Co, Ky till about 1806. 3. Fayette Co formed 1780 as Kentucky County VA. Kentucky was formed as a State in 1792. Jessamine County was formed from Fayette County in 1799. Records prior to 1792 for that area are probably in Richmond VA if they exist at all. Records for Fayette County are: Marriage records from 1795; Probate and land records from 1794 held by County Clerk office. Divorce and Civil Court records held by Clerk Circuit Court, no dates given but suspect from 1792. Records for Jessamine County: County Clerk has marriage, probate, deeds, mortgages from 1799. Circuit Court Clerk has divorce records. Source for the above is The Handy Book for Genealogist, Everton Press, Logan UT Seventh Edition. Old Hal
