Looking for names of resthomes in 1945 in Fayette Rylynn
Nancy Foley Johnson: Hello Carol, Hello, I have recently been made aware that my grandmother was a teacher at Maxwell St Public School - prior to her marriage (c1921?). [Nancy Johnson] First of all, what was her name then? Is your family from Fayette Co.? Please, is anybody able to point me in the right direction for information on this school? [Nancy Johnson] The Fayette Co. Public Schools Administrative Offices are located at: 701 E. Main St. Lexington, KY 40508 [Nancy Johnson] Is it still there? [Nancy Johnson] No, that bldg. is gone and a new one has replaced it. It is on the corner of Maxwell St. and Woodland Avenue. I have found an old postcard picture on the Lexington history museum site. [Nancy Johnson] Do a Google search for 'Fayette Co KY Roots Web Site' and it should bring up all sorts of sites of interest. I have not checked it out in a long time and do not remember if it has anything on Maxwell Sch. But it is worth a try. Does anyone remember attending there? I would be most interested. [Nancy Johnson] I attended 1-6 grades there, as did my father, who would have been there during her time, but he is deceased. I have some of her class work and notes, but was never sure where she taught or if they were college notes. [Nancy Johnson] Do you have any grade or roll books that would list names? If so, send me some, and if I know them and/or can find them in the phone book, I will send you their phone numbers and you can talk to them. Of course, they would be ancient, but some might still have their facilities. Let me hear from you. Can anyone who has access to the city directories of Lexington, KY in the late 1930's and early 1940's please look up Walter Reynolds with wife, Mae or Jennie Mae? Any information is very much appreciated. Thank you. Joyce Greineder Waterford, Connecticut

Hi List, I am new to the list. I am looking for the WOOLS Family prior to 1788. Christopher WOOLS was on the Fayette Co.KY tax roll in 1788. His children were all born in VA according to the latter census. I have hit a brick wall and cannot place the family prior to that year. I have no clue where to look. Anyone that can assist me, I would be in your debt forever. Thanks so much Carol Wools Blacketer
Hello, I'm looking for information on a Coleman Brown, born about 1819 in Fayette County. His father was John Brown, born about 1790, possibly in Scott County. Both Coleman and John moved to Green County after 1820 with Coleman's brother George and sister Mary, both born around 1820. John Brown was married to an Anna L., born in Virginia, and Coleman Brown eventually married Harriet C. Bland in 1857. I'm looking for more definite information on this family, particularly on John Brown's lineage. I'm trying to do this from Baltimore, but once I get the locales narrowed down, it will by time for a visit. Thanks for any help, Sam Brown s.emersonbrown@verizon.net (703) 489-7817

Hello fellow listers, I am seeking information on anyone familiar with the following surnames in the State of Kentucky: DE ROSEAR, DE ROSIER, DEROZIER, DEROSIERS, etc. My children's Gr3-Grandfather, William DE ROSEAR, was born bet. August 12, 1813 - 1815, 3 miles from Lexington, KY to Pierre DE ROSEAR (or any name similar to) and his wife, ____ _______ who died when William was 3 years old. His father Pierre (a horse trader) took William to his father Joseph's home in Lenora, District of Montreal, Canada. When 17, William moved back to the US and died in Lee County, Iowa. This story was told by either William himself or one of his descendants and published in "Portrait and Biographical Album of Lee County, Iowa 1887, Author: Unknown, Page 276 and 277. Nothing is known by any descendant as to the name of William's mother and the State of Kentucky has not been able to provide any information about this family. Thank you in advance of any reply. Rev. William Cooke (1738-1812) & wife Elizabeth of Surry County, NC, had four children: Wilds Cooke (c. 1760-aft 1829) m. Elizabeth Wilcockson Mary "Polly"Cooke (c. 1762-) m. Reuben Holman John Cooke (1766-) m. Mary Wilcockson Lucy Cooke (1768-) m. James C. Holman Wilds (Wiles) Cooke was listed in the Madison Co. KY in 1790 and 1792 and then in Montgomery County, KY from 1800 through 1820. At the 1810 KYMontgomery census Wilds Cooke appears listed with 8 children - 4 male, 4 female. I know the names of two sons: Judge William Wilcox Cooke ("married Judge Brown's sister of Clarksville [TN]") and George W. Cooke (married Jemima Waddy Lane). I'm seeking to identify the other children of Wilds COOKE & Elizabeth WILCOCKSON. (A Wilds Cooke was a survey marker in 1821 - possibly a son...) All clues welcome. Karen
I'm hoping to identify the wife of my ancestor, Miller KING (c. 1770, possibly in England- ). I think she may have been Sarah HIGGINS, daughter of Capt. James Higgins (c. 1754-) & his wife, Nancy Estes... According to a letter written by Hiram H. Higgins in 1872: "Sarah [daughter of Capt. James Higgins] married a Yankee by the name of King, in Montgomery County, and shortly thereafter emigrated, and settled near the mouth of Bean's Creek, Franklin County, Tennessee, raised a large family of respectable and handsome sons and daughters." In 1819 my Miller King received a land grant of 50 acres in Cumberland County, KY. In 1824 in Franklin County, TN he received a grant on Bean's Creek. 1830 census TN Franklin Sarah KING (F 60-70) (widow?) with some of family, living next to Amazon KING - proven son of Miller KING Best regards, Karen
