    1. [KYFAYETT] Thomas Jefferson Buckner
    2. Mark & Tammye Hobgood
    3. Hello, I am a newbie, and I am researching the Buckner name and trying to find other descendants of my ggg grandfather Thomas Jefferson Buckner. I believe he was born in KY and his wife was either named Laura Williams or Lucinda Williamson, she was born in TN. I know they had at least two children, Jesse James Buckner (who was also known as J.J. Buckner and James J. Buckner) born January 24,1869 in Caldwell County KY. The other son was Albert Mitchell Buckner born January 18, 1873 also in Caldwell County. For a reason unknown to me, J.J. Buckner was raised in Caldwell County, while A.M. Buckner was raised in TX. J.J. Buckner married Laura Lewis and they had the following children: Minnie, Robert, Weldon, Fred, Jennie, Ruth, Nellie, Maynard, and Jesse Lewis. A.M. Buckner married Mattie Elizabeth Byas and they had the following children: Dellos Urban, Ruby Mae, Marvin Obbie, and Herman Albert. I would greatly appreciate any help with my line of Buckners. Thank you, Tammye Campbell-Hobgood

    1. [KYFAYETT] Re: Henry Clay Farm
    2. Hi, I have joined this list because I don't know where else to look for the information I seek. My great-grandmother, MARY CUNNINGHAM WALSH, was born in Lexington KY, supposedly on the Henry Clay Farm, 4 Mar 1861. Her parents were EDWARD CUNNINGHAM and ANNE MEEHAN, both from Ireland. There were two sons, JOHN CUNNINGHAM b Oct 1863, and EDWARD CUNNINGHAM b Aug 1865. Also born In Lexington KY. By 1870 they had moved to Cincinnati OH where I found them in the Census. My questions: Are there birth records for this period for Lexington? Were Irish immigrants hired at the Henry Clay Farm? Would any records have been kept of births there? Does anyone have any tips on how I would find the answers to these questions? Thank you for any help. Joan Maxwell Skirvin, Scottsdale, AZ

    3. Hi Robert! The best way for you to get a copy of a marriage license is for you to write to the Fayette County Clerk at Fayette County Clerk--marriage record request 162 E Main St Lexington, KY 40507 - 1363 606 253 3344 is the phone number, I believe you can charge your request, but that requires an additional fee. 8 - 4:30 Monday through Friday, Kentucky time. Include a check for $6 (at least that's what it was last year when I sent for a bunch of my own) and an addressed, stamped envelope for your return. It'll take a couple of weeks, but Fayette Co has been the most prompt county I've dealt with! (and, unlike my home county, they will return the check if nothing is found.) The records available from the Fayette County Clerk include marriage records from 1795, probate and land records from 1794. The Clerk of the Circuit Court has divorce and civil court records. Good luck, and let us know what you find! 3. Hi all! I'm now and seemingly forever looking for information about Robert MONTGOMERY, father of Lorenzo Dow Montgomery. Lorenzo Dow Montgomery, my great-grandfather, was born in 1823 in Fayette CO, KY. His father, Robert, signed for his marriage to Mary GUYN in 1843 in Woodford CO, KY. (One possibility is the Robert Montgomery who married a Polly Bucknall on May 17, 1797 in Lincoln CO, KY.) I'm hoping someone will have information about any Robert Montgomery in Fayette CO or nearby ca. 1820. I have the descendants of Lorenzo Dow and Mary Guyn Montgomery listed on my website. 3. Jim, The first Fayette County newspaper was the Kentucky Gazette which began on August 11, 1787. No copies of that issue remain. It was several years before much local news began to appear in the Gazette and even then it was quite spotty, so you'll need a real stroke of luck to find a birth announcement. The following address lists which early Fayette newspapers are on microfilm and available through the University of Kentucky libraries: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/sources/ukfilm.html The Lexington Public library also has early Fayette newspapers on film. Good luck with your search. 1. [KYFAYETT] Lexington(Eastern Kentucky) Lunatic Asylum
    2. j&j
    3. I would be interested also in any early sources about the Eastern Kentucky Lunatic Asylum (it's real name, I think)in Lexington. Several of my relatives who emigrated from Ireland apparently got their start by working as "attendants" at the asylum, beginning around 1846. The 1850 census lists the whole staff, and most likely the 1840 one does too (I didn't check because my relatives weren't there yet). For the in-between years, some of them were also listed in the Lexington City Directory with the occupation as "attendant" at the asylum. Does anyone know if any records of the asylum's early years have survived, particularly those that might have information about the staff or how so many people from Ireland happened to end up working there? Were they directly recruited? Thanks Julie Hu [email protected]

    2. Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me find out some more information about my Cavin (sometimes Cavins) ancestors. I only have one name, Thomas Cavin. He lived in Fayette Co., Kentucky, and according to his obituary in The Lexington Reporter, he died May 9, 1829 at 83 years of age. I found his name on the 1788 Fayette Co. tax list, and he was mentioned in The History of Fayette Co., Ky by Robert Peter. It stated that he had bought property from the government while it was still Virginia (and subsequently sold it to the Irvin family). In the Kentucky Gazette in 1794, there is mention of his property being adjacent to a Robert Preston's & a John Hawkin's. Aside from this, all I have is his wife, Jane Erwin, and his daughter, Jane Cavin Armstrong. If any of this sounds familiar to you, please let me know. Thank you. Roxanne

    3. Jim: I decided to post this to the entire list because I thought it would help to keep the traffic up. I believe in the molecular theory: if you just keep the molecules stirred up, things begin to happen : ) Works for me! The earliest two papers in Lexington, and I assume Fayette as a whole, were the Kentucky Gazette and the Kentucky Register. There are many books that index these papers and the originals are on microfilm at the Lexington Public Library. They will copy and send to you any pages you request. If you want to search, I am not sure if you can rent the microfilm. If you go to their website you may find the answer to that question or at least who to ask. Good luck, Caroline James Ralston wrote: > Can anyone tell me of the earliest newspaper(s) in Fayette County. I am trying all efforts to locate information about my gg-grandfather, DAVID RALSTON. 3. I absent-mindedly sent this to the FORD list. Hope I've got it straight now! There can be problems with thinking about something half the night and then doing it too early in the morning : ) On that list they couldn't figure out which Fayette I was talking about. I guess not! One in every state. Anyway, here's my request. I have decided to try a new tack on my Ford-Hilton research. It's a variation of the one I did that identified for sure my Ford 3rd gr-grandfather, so it has worked once : ) I'm asking for people with Fords or Hiltons by any first names at all in Fayette or surrounding counties from 1800-1840 if they would please send me their names and identifying dates. If I'm asking for a big list from anyone, you're probably the one I really need to talk to! Mostly, I suspect, I will find one or two here or there. I'm also not asking for a lot of detail. It's like turning over all the pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes you can see a group whose colors match and belong together, and gradually a pattern may emerge. 3. Hi Susan and list. Yesterday, I was looking at an early city directory for Lexington. I can't remember which one it was but it was either 1838 or before. There was a page in there about the lunatick asylum. I think it had a list of staff. Might have a hint. If you are interested in more specifics about the source, please e-mail me off-list. Also, I have had wonderful success in using the Lexington Public Library for research in the Kentucky Gazette. I remember reading just yesterday in one of those early directories that the Kentucky Gazette was the first newspaper in Lexington. It was started early 19th c. Did the early census list the inmates of an institution as such? I can't remember. I didn't write all these things down specifically because they weren't what I was looking for but I remember seeing them.
