    3. Dodie-As Bob Norris said earlier, this is my lucky day! He happened to be going to Hartford this am and was going to ck up on the info I was searching. I live in Wa state. Now on Valentine "Felty" Husk...no doubt he was my gggg grandfather's best friend. I run across his name intertwined all the time with Smeathers. I know they both came from 'somewhere' in Va...maybe the Holston River area, or Wash Co, but somewhere where they knew each other and were together and went to Ky. Have you seen this at all..its from the Owensboro Daviess Co Ky History "the first settlers were William Smeathers at Yellowbanks, now Owensoboro, in 1797 and Valentine Husk. There were Indian trails here inc the Elizabethtown-Shawneetown Trail." pg 797 says "he lived in Yellowbanks [where my gggg grandfather did too] a few yrs then moved to Daviess Co at a point on the Ohio river at the mouth of Pup Creek. He had a family of 8 children. Came to Ky fr Va an d 1826. His wife was Elizabeth Hacker, dau of Wm Hacker who came to the co abt the same time and was a soldier in the Rev War. Hacker fought at Braddock's defeat and was personally acquainted with Geo Washington. He was a member of the Va Blues, Washington's command. A note by a Mrs. Emma D. Mastins: "I have a memorandum that Valentine Husk is buried on the Frank Duncan Farm in Daviess Co near the Old Camp Group." This info provided to me by another descendant of Valentine Husk-Gloria Powers Husk of Carrabelle, Fl. http://www.gloryway.com http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/u/s/Gloria-J-Husk I had searched for descendants of Valentine to try to figure out exactly where he came fr in Va. Gloria did not know for sure. But she listed his 8 children: George m Charlotte Kelley d/o Garrett Kelley; James m Cynthia Lancaster, Frank, Mary Catherine m Wm Helm, Valentine W[Wm James] sr m 1)unk 2)Malinda Kelley Kellam; Washington, Deliah m Wm Gabbert; Elizabeth m James Kellam. I am sure she would be pleased to correspond with you gjhusk@gloryway.com I also have another descendant-searching for info-Berniece Lemmons blemmons@ionet.net Valentine was her ggg grandfather She did not know for sure where Valentine was born or fr in Va either. Maybe I will be lucky and YOU will know...smile!! The only discrepancy I find is Gloria says he was b 1740-1750 and Berniece say 1775. I don't have a clue unless I go by the 1810 census. I did find them both on the 1810 Census for Ohio Co Ky along with other pals I have found them with: John and Wm Huston, Thomas Posey, Anthony Thompson [who was the JP for the county], Gabriel and Mason Jones, Eli Bell, John Duncan, Joshua Griffiths and my Wm Smeathers brother, James Smeathers [except its spelled Smethers-both of them, but its them]. Now on this census it says Valentine was checked in the 26-45 range, big range so guess that gives him a dob fr 1765-1784, which really makes more sense than 1740-50, as we believe our Wm was b around 1763-67. Valentine d 1826 and our Wm went to Tx in 1820 and d in 1837 at 71y so the newspaper obit said...does this help, hope you know where he was born...thanks, Nena From: BDCamp6900@aol.com Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 10:00:01 EST Hi NenaI just read your email about your grandfather WM Smeathers and a James Gentry. While I don't have any information regarding your people I found the email interesting because Valentine Husk is my husband's 5th great-grandfather. Hope replies will be posted to the Daviess web site.>Dodie>in Kansas City, Missouri _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
