Leach cleared up ground ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 24 We broke corn ground as on yesterday except S W Allen **************************************************************************** ******************** Sun 18 --I couldn't identify William Allen or a Leech (Leach) family in the 1850 or 1860 Daviess County census Wed 21 -- At first I thought he had finally worked poor little John Christian to death but he is back cutting bushes on Fri and not even Davis could make the dead get up and get back to work. I have a gr gr Winkler from my Dad's side of the family so I checked my files. William Winkler Sr. did have a son named John but he died in Jan 1854. (I can't confirm the source on this date so there is a chance this is an error) I asked the Winkler cousins for their ideas but they have the same dates so our best guess is that John may have been a hired hand. Wm Howard is in the 1860 census at # 485 age 37 wife Louisa age 24 children Jefferson 2 and Nancy 4/12. Davis's cousin James Richmond is at # 487 and his b-i-l Wm Winkler is at # 489
