January the 1st 1857 Thu 1 I cut and halled some wood and helped S W Allen ketch some hogs and load up his plunder on the sled to hall home and after dinner I helped Wm Winkler kill his hogs. John is going to school ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fri 2 I halled a load of pork to Hawesville for Wm Winkler we got back about 2 hours in the night ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Satu 3 I helped James Richmond load his plunder on the waggon to hall off and then we cut and halled some wood. it is very cold the thermometer is at 10 (degrees) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- S W Allen is Samuel Allen a neighbor and good friend Wm Winkler is married to Nancy Black and is Davis Brother-in-law John is John J Christian a child who was indentured to James Douthitt. He is 6 in 1850, 15 in 1860. James Richmond is Davis first cousin son of Ellen Douthitt & Elijah Richmond.
