    3. February 1857 Su 22 I staid at home most all day went to S. W. Allens a little while in the evening ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Mo 23 I joined with Thomas Adams and Ephraim McDaniel in making a plant bed out of the old barns and in the evening we quit and I made some fence and John halled some rails ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Tue 24 We finished our plant bed and burned it and in the evening it rained awhile and after the rain we halled some rails and finished our fence all up but the branch and gaps ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- We 25 We worked on our plant bed awhile widened it out and then I helped John hall a few rails and I went to the blacksmith shop to get my axe upset and some other work done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Thu 26 I worked on our plant bed a little while and went to Hawesville John halled some rails ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fr 27 We sowed our plant bed and after we got done we fixed up some fence and reset the lane and laid up some rails below where we reset it ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 28 We put up some fence and cut a road around the fence and I went to Knottsville with James Richmond and George Husk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- Mon 23 The Douthitts are # 645 in the 1860 census. Thomas Adams age 36 and his wife Jane are # 668. Ephraim McDaniel age 26 and wife Emily are # 682. Adams is one of the families that I research. Emily McDaniel was the daughter of William Adams but I don't know how or if Thomas is connected to their family. Wed 25 I studied this entry carefully and I'm sure that he got his ax "upset"

March the 1st 1857 Su 1 I staid at home all day ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Mo 2 We finished our new ground laid up the gaps and fixed the branch and made some bar posts ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Tues 3 I halled some bar rails and made a pare of bars and after dinner We commenced cleaning up the fence row and I split 1 rail cut and went and helped S. W. Allen hall a load of corn from Farrels ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- We 4 We commenced our long field fence assisted by S.W. Allen and A. Smeathers we made some rails ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Thu 5 We worked at our fence assisted by S.W. Allen and R. McDaniel we made some rails ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fri 6 We worked at our fence cleaned up reset and halled assisted by S.W. Allen except while he went after the Doctor for Mr. Gatewood ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 7 We halled some rails and made fence until dinner and then I fixed up and went to Ohio after Mother ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- Davis's Mother was a daughter of Solomon Barnett who lived in Ohio County
