Hello to the lists: Has anyone had reason to question the reliability of the IGI index of the LDS site? I recently have received information quoting that as the source of some data for which I have been looking for years. Hypothetical situation: If I place some doubtful data in my Family Tree records and, at some later date, this information finds its way to the LDS, do they then place it in their records as fact? And is it then fed out to other researchers as such? Cookie, in Florida
Yes, absolutely question the IGI or any other LDS non-primary source records. For instance look up William Duncan and/or Ruth Raleigh, Rawley or Browning, his wife. They are given by the LDS as fact and they have multiple different dates of birth for both ranging from 1692 to 1725. Nobody can even prove that any one of those is her maiden name. The bad part is that somebody had a bible record for them that says their eldest son was born in 1723, some of the marriage dates for them in the IGI are as late as 1757. Watch those Duncan's in general, they are full of mythology and LDS has picked up every bit of it and treated it as fact! Be FULL of suspicion when viewing any LDS "record".
