Head and then I went to Wm Winklers to fix up the church book. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Tue 14 I went and helped Reason McDaniel take his sheep to Hawesville ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- We 15 I topped off Archaball Smeathers chimney and repaired the fire place and hearth and rat? wall ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Th 16 I went to Owensboro on business ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fri 17 I went to Hawesville with the Widow Stallings to get some goods ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 18 We went to Meeting at Mt Zion ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- Davis mentions the death of Mr Stallings on March 7 1856 There must have been a tradition of brick work in the Douthitt family. Davis's father, James, also mentions fixing chimneys in his journal and his Uncle Joseph is listed as a brickmaker in the 1850 Hancock census.
