August 1856 Sun 17 We came home from Ohio County rained nearly all night ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Mo 18 It is still raining a mighty fine rain it rained most all day ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- August the 19th 1856. Tue 19 We commenced making staves and we could not get timber at a price to justify us in going on and we went to Knottsville to get off and did so ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- We 20 We halled rails and made a fence around our wheet stacks and tromping floor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Thu 21 I went to Owensboro with some more wood. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fri 22 I helped George Husk top off his house and cover some of it ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 23 I helped Mr Husk finish covering his house and then we went to Mr Stanbushs to Meeting it is raining a mighty fine rain ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- George Husk was a son of Valentine Huisk, one of the earliest settlers in Daviess County Frederick Stanbush lived in Hancock County and was married to Davis's cousin, Lavinia Barnett, daughter of Reason Barnett and Elizabeth Douthitt
