I hope no one is offended by this request - if so please delete. This has to do with Rootsweb lists, free genealogy web sites, surname lists, county lists, etc. I'm sure you are all aware of the server breakdown which has most of the state and county websites down. They simply outgrew the server and - before money could be found to purchase a new server it crashed. The email lists were down too but are running on a patched server until the new server can be built and delivered and set up. To explain it better I will borrow from some of the email updates I have received: Update: The USGenNet server crashed the weekend just after Thanksgiving. USGenNet’s Board of Directors has voted unanimously to purchase a new server. The server has been ordered on Monday morning, 2 December, and will be delivered on or before December 9th. More specific information will be added here as it becomes available. This is the temporary USGenNet info site: http://www.californios.us/usgn/ USGenNet’s financial need is an ongoing one. Even after money is raised to pay for the server, there is the ongoing expense of Bandwidth. USGenNet currently spends $600.00 every month to keep the hosted sites online, and by January, 2003 we will be spending even more. We need your continuing support! Donations may be made by mail and sent to our Treasurer: Rhoda Fone 999 Bridgeport Way Rio Vista, California 94571 [Please make checks payable to USGenNet] Donations may also be made through PayPal. Paypal payments should be made to: usgtreas@aol.com USGenNet is grateful for every donation received, in any amount. Every dollar donated helps us keep genealogical and historical data freely available to all. Every penny donated is spent on operating expenses and equipment. USGenNet is staffed by volunteers and pays no salaries. Folks we have depended on USGenNet to provide us all with FREE genealogy information, it's time we pitched in a bit to help all we can in this time of need. Please consider donating.
