March - April 1857 Sun 29 I staid at home most all day I went to get some (spikewood ? ) W. S. Tucker went with me ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Mo 30 John commenced breaking oats ground I halled some rails and laid up some fence and fixed the branch in one place ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Tue 31 I halled some rails and made fence and finished the long field fence except stopping holes and bars and in the evening I commenced a gate to put up at the fence above the stable John ploughed for oats ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- April the 1st 1857 We 1 I sowed oats and John harrowed them in and then I worked on my gate ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Thu 2 I cut stalks awhile and fired a tree and then I worked on my gate and finished it and cut and halled my gate posts John ploughed some and cut stalks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Fri 5 I wnt to Wm Winklers and S W Allens and Mr Gtewoods to get help to raise my gate posts and raise my gate John ploughed and cut stalks and I stratened my fence at the gate ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- Sat 4 I fixed my gate latch and went to a log roling at black Abes and after dinner our school district met to elect trustees and then I went to Knottsville
