My father's birth certificate says his father (my grandfather) was born in Owensburg, KY. I am currently assuming that it is a misspelling of Owensboro, but I just wanted to determine if Owensboro was ever Owensburg. I don't find any place in Ky named Owensburg. Thanks to all who answered my query about the Owensboro name. Now I know, thanks to one of you, that there is an actual place named Owensburg in Shelby County, KY although it is hard to find. I also know by doing a Google search that there are several websites that have made the mistake of listing Owensburg as the town name when they really mean Owensboro. I still don't know for sure where my grandfather was from, but this doesn't rule out Owensboro. There don't appear to be any possible candidates for him in Shelby County based on the 1880 census and there is a possible candidate in Daviess County. Hope I have not confused anyone.
