An incredible thing has happened for those searching for kindred connections in the USA. Our terrifically wonderful Hugh Wallis has done it again!!! Yes, you can now search the IGI by town, county and state with only a surname... Hi Everyone,, I am new to the list and am looking forward to poking around in Daives Co. for some newly found relatives that were born there. Just last week, I recieved information from a long lost 3rd cousin in Odessa, Tx. that his father was born in Davies Co. If anyone could help me with this I would appreciate it. The story goes like this. William Simmons married Bettie Ford in West Ky. somewhere about 1897. They had 1 son, William Egbert, b. 1898 in Hickman Co. Ky. Then they had 2 more sons, but I never could figure out where they were born. The cousin from Odessa told me that 1 of the sons was born in Owensboro, which leads me to believe that the other one might have been born there also. (instead of going west, MY ancestors headed east,,, go figure). Here are the names and birthdates of the 2 sons. Wilburn Simmons b Mar 10, 1901 Jesse Franklin Simmons b Dec. 28, 1902 Cousin from Odessa said that he had heard whispers that the father, William Simmons was involved in horse stealing. I am wondering if he was caught and went to the pen there in Owensboro. The reason I am thinking this is that William and Bettie had another son, born 10 yrs later in Obion Co., Tn. I know that the father disappeared for a long time and my grandfather had to go live with relatives, because Grandma Bettie was having a hard time feeding the 3 boys. (She was back in Hickman Co., at that time.) If anyone can shed a little light on this mystery for me, I'd be ever so grateful. I was born and raised over around Hickman Co., Ky . but never have been to Owensboro. Thanks in advance for any help, Janice Watts Lester Nashville, Tn.
Betty, If you look at the Daviess Co queries you should find some from a Thomas Cambron of the Nashville, TN area. He is an expert on the Field family. They are a collateral family for me, as one of Arabella's descendents married a Birk--I have an error on the generations on that line--and another descendent married into my Booth/Overstreet line in the 20th century. I don't have parents for Arabella but have never looked. What I have mostly comes from the 1883 County history as well. For the benefit of list members who are not familiar with the particulars of the Journal. Davis Douthit was my gr-gr-grandfather. Douthitts were in Daviess County by 1826 when Davis' parents James Douthitt and Elizabeth Barnett were married. My mother was born in 1914 in the house that they built. The property still belongs to a family member and the house is still standing but not lived in. It is in eastern Daviess Co . If you have a good map follow Hwy 144 to Knottsville and look for Scythia , that is the place. The journal was a daily memoranda kept from 1855-1859. The back pages are in bad shape and I won't be able to get all of that. I have tried to identify every one that Davis mentions. So far most have been found either in census records of Daviess and Hancock County and in the History of Daviess County They were all living in the same area from Yelvington , Spice Knob and Knottsville on over into Hancock County and were either relatives or neighbors. Samuel W Allen was a close neighbor to the Douthitt's. I checked the Daviess Cemetery Volumes but couldn't find any burial information for his family. The children living in 1850 were also in the 1860 census. The youngest child then was 6 so the child that died was probably just a baby. Douthitts were buried at Mt Zion near Ensor and at the Winkler cemetery across the road from Mt Zion. I can provide the complete file of the Journal to date for any one who may want or need it. I can also scan a page occasionally and send it as an attached jpeg file to any one interested in trying to read his handwriting. Mildred, Whitesville is in the Boston Precinct, which is on the eastern side of Daviess Co. . below Knottsville and butting up against Ohio Co. I have an 1876 illustrated Historical Atlas Map of Daviess Co. published by Leo McDonough & Co. of Ohio Co. KY. Your Conreys do not show up anywhere in 1876 in Daviess Co. Artis Powers So. Sorry, don't see any of these names in Anna's "Howard" book or her "Hagan" book. Also not listed in her copy of residents of St Mary's cemetery. Tony Howard
Randy, I have been viewing your JARBOE listings knowing that I need to contact you very soon. But, I wasn't sure I could add anymore to my plate at present. The JARBOES. PILES and TATTERSHALLS have really peaked my interest, so I guess I will have to change direction to delve further into this lineage now. Here it is: Hannah Frances JARBOE, b Daviess Co., KY, d/o William B. (Blue Billy) HEAD and Catherine Sienna JARBOE, m Alfred (Alf) ABLE, b Nelson Co., KY, s/o John ABELL and Clementine MEDCALF. My gr. grandmother was Caroline (Carrie) Victoria Able, d/o Alf. Nicholas POWER,my 6th gr. grandfather, m by 1674 in St. Marys Co., MD, Sarah PILE, d/o Joseph PILE and Mary TURNER. Joseph, s/o of John PILE and Sarah JARBOE . I don't have proof of John's wife, Sarah, do you? How is Sarah related to John JARBOE? Also you say John JARBOE m Mary TATTERSHALL. Am I correct to assume that is William's sister? Whom did William's daughter, Mary, marry? I have seen a family history in St. Marys Co. that states Mary TATTERSHALL married into the PILE family. I would like to share data with you. I recall you mentioned that the JARBOES were to be researched in France. I'm interested. Your JARBOE website is terrific. Keep up the good work. Artis Powers So.
