You should be able to obtain a marriage record with this info from the Daviess Co., IN Court Clerk. Since this is a small berg you could probably just address it to the Daviess County Courthouse, Clerk, Washington, IN 47501. I have only written there for birth records myself and the health dept. Looking for info on Grandville Underwood who married Julia Whitaker in Owensboro,Ky on 18-Sep-1842 Birth,Death & Buried Father name N.H.Underwood mother Sally Flint
I would like to thank everyone for helping me make my trip to Owensboro a success. We really didn't find more information on the Carrico & Lynches but went to the St. Alphonsus church and cemetery and found the Carrico tombstones. Had a nice visit with Sr. Vickie at Mount St. Joseph. She is now in charge of the archives and is trying to get organized. She found where 3 Lynch daughters went to school at the Ursuline school for girls. Talked to a man after a funeral at St. Alphonsus and he told me someone at the church may have records of who's buried at the cemetery. I have written to the church secretary for any records but no response yet. She only works part time. We stayed at the Fairfield in Owensboro and had barbeque at the Moonliter. Then on to Louisville to Calvary cemetery and found graves of Sr. Mary Martha Lynch and Zilpha ( Lynch ) Payne. I also saw a tombstone of Sr. Mary Gerard Payne. Does anyone know who her parents were? Spent another night in Evansville, IN. and enjoyed fried chicken at the LOG-INN, an old stage coach stop. Still looking for lost family, Jackie

> > > Sat 14 > > > > I went to the letting out of the livy . So what was he up to? The consensus is for levee . I thought of that but in my mind a levee was connected to someplace like New Orleans. The only other suggestion was this "Do you think it had something to do with making public the annual county tax (levy) list??" One of our list members grew up near the old Douthitt home. This is her contribution. Sometimes ,when I am working on the Journal , I hear echoes of the way the old people used to talk so I feel sure that she is right. "I have heard people talking about draining ponds and catching any fish that might come through the hole in the levee. I have heard the phrase "letting out the levee" used in reference to making a hole in the levee to drain a pond. Considering how our ancestors had great talents for turning mundane jobs into community socials, draining a pond or letting out the levee could have been an interesting event to attend." " many people I knew around Scythia referred to the manmade dam of ponds as "the levee" which I suppose could be a levee of sorts since it holds back water, but definitely not the same as one in New Orleans. His words were very close to those I had heard used for the description of a pond draining. I can remember how ponds filled up with silt due to erosion and the farmers would drain them, allow the hot summer sun to dry the mud and then they would remove the accumulated dirt to make the pond deeper again. Repair to the drain area was done and the autumn rains would begin to fill up the pond again." Carol

Levee is what I thought of but not being very familiar with the area then I didn't know if there would have been levees.
