This was posted on Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter: After checking the pdf file I see there is a Cornelius Westerfield buried here. Does anyone know if this Cornelius is related to the Westerfield of Davies and Ohio Co? ================================ "- Seeking Descendants of Those Buried in New Jersey Cemetery The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is seeking the descendants of those buried in a potters' field cemetery in Hudson County. The turnpike needs the land to build an interchange that will serve the Secaucus Transfer train station near Laurel Hill. The cemetery on those grounds was used by Hudson County's former poorhouse, mental hospital, and penitentiary. More than 3,500 bodies may be in the ground, located behind a prison annex and under an elevated section of highway. A complete list of those buried is available on the turnpike's Web site at http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/burial%20list.pdf. If you have ancestry in or around Hudson County, you should check this list for any possible relatives." Denise
Hello Kentucky Lists, Can anyone tell me if there are any books about St. Theresa`s Church, Cemetery, and the people who belonged to it in the 1700 and 1800`s. Also do they have a web site? Thanks for any information, Patrick.

I live here in Owensboro, or nearby in Sorgho, and I understand what you are saying. Last spring I was there looking for Hubbard family burial area and according to their records there should have been tombstones at the location but none were there. And this was in Elmwood, just as you enter the cemetery off Old Hartford Road. I ask about and they did not know. Of course they went way back in time. Right now I am unable to say what year, but no sign of a tombstone for Hubbard. I do not believe them about carrying the tombstones away following the tornado of Jan. 3, 2000. You may have noticed that a few large, tall tombstones in the Older section of Elmwood had been toppled over and not been repaired or returned to their proper location. The maintenance crew just mows around them. Those tombstones had been toppled over by the tornado. The maintenance foreman told me that the cemetery did not have the money to repair or return them to their proper location. Maybe they're just not interested in doing so. Anyway, the tornado destroyed a large number of trees in both the Rosehill and Elmwood cemetery. Didn't seem to bother any tombstones in Rosehill cemetery, only the large and tall ones in Elmwood. I feel that their records are good in recent years, but not sure about early years. The prior owners would not allow anyone to put flowers on gravesites for many years. When ownership changed the cemetery change for the better. Looks more like a cemetery should look, with many flowers decorating the landscape. I will be glad to help further if you need further assistance. Best Regards Bob O'Flynn Toddyofl@aol.com 270-771-4937
According to "Kentucky Ancestors" Vol. 10, pages 94-97, my ancestor, Daniel Lamson MORRISON (1776-1860) is buried in Old Elmwood Cemetery, Owensboro in the plot with a married daughter, Elizabeth Pigman Morrison CHAMBERS and William W. CHAMBERS, Martha A. CHAMBERS and Sarah CHAMBERS. Last week we passed through Owensboro and visited Elmwood Cemetery to search for the burial site. We found the cemetery without any trouble due to the great directions provided by members of this mailing list. Many thanks to each of you! The Elmwood-Rosehill Cemetery office has a record of the burial of the above listed CHAMBERS family members in Section E, Lot 8 in the historical section of Old Elmwood Cemetery. They have no record for Daniel Lamson MORRISON, but I was told that is not unusual, that many of the old burials prior to the Civil War are not in their cemetery records. We were given a map of the layout of the cemetery and located Section E, Lot 8. We found it centrally located, mowed and well maintained but completely vacant, not one single stone on the lot. There were stones on the adjacent lots, but there was a large, vacant grassy area exactly where my family was supposed to be. We returned to the cemetery office to ask questions. The lady working in the office was very sweet but could not provide any information. She suggested that perhaps the stones had been destroyed by a tornado that hit the cemetery a couple of years ago, that many broken stones had been carted away. We did not have time to remain in Owensboro to search for answers. Can any of you Owensboro residents shed any light on this for me? Thanks for any help. Betty Louisiana
