Hello everyone! I've got some bad news... Just wanted to let everyone know on the list that Owensboro was hit by a Tornado today. There appears to alot of damage. There has been reported of 700 houses damaged or destroyed. The area worse hit is the Fredricka Street area. I'm not sure what type of damage has been done to the library or courthousee [if any]. For the latest, here is one of our TV stations:[what is listed is not the up-to-date info on the Tornado] http://www.nbc14.com/ Rose Hollingsworth Evansville, IN Families of research: Short and Stout [like to teapot!]
Sally, You mentioned to KYDAVIES that you enjoyed the weather report that is included in some documents..... Sooo I'll trade 'ya for mine. It is currently 52F degrees below zero and the forcast is for a whopping -45 for the high today. Clear sky for as long as it's visible. Today the sun will be above the horizon for 3 hours & 52 minutes, a gain of three minutes from yesterday. Hubby is off to the dangerous drive to work (ice fog is thick). I am well aware that this type of correspondence should not be used on rootsweb... I just couldn't help myself. 8o) Sherri, rnuttall@ptialaska.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <OKASEY@aol.com> To: <KYDAVIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 02, 2000 5:58 PM Subject: Re: [KYDAVIES-L] Davis Douthitt's Journal > GREAT! > > I'm so glad you're taking the time to continue this. Hi, noticed the Ford name--my gg grandfather was Samuel J. Ford--b. abt 1810, d. abt 1847. Samuel J. married Eliza G. Sandefur in Henderson Co., KY. They had three daughters--Harriet Minerva (md. Enoch George Eakins--my g grandparents), Mary (md. a Sandefur), and Gabrells (md. a Taylor). My line of Fords came from MD to Caldwell Co., KY, and migrated into Ohio, Henderson, and other places. Samuel J.'s parents were Samuel Ford SR and Nancy Bennett. Sam SR's parents were John Ford and Ann Talbot. I have info I would be happy to exchange with you. Carol, I too have very much enjoyed the journal entries. I didn't start receiving them in January, but the ones I have received have been like reading a book. I really have enjoyed the recent ones. Joan Miller
Carol....... Add me to your list of people who enjoyed the journal. My family came from Davies and Ohio counties and the activities related in the journal were very interesting. Many of his activities were the same as mine as I grew up in Southern Indiana a 1/2 century ago. Keep it coming if you can. I appreciate the effort it takes to put something out every day. Thanks for all the past issues. Paul Hayden McKinney, TX
Carol, Thanks for the daily journal. I looked forward to every one of them. I want to be included if you do any more. Bill Wethington
I also will miss the posting from David's Journal. I live in a very rural area of Northern California. Sometimes I go for days without any human contact other than my e-mail. David was begining to feel like a friend. I'll miss him. Carol, Even us folk down here in Paducah enjoyed your work. And looked forward to the next issue. Charlie
Carol....... The entries from Davis' journal were anything but boring. I looked forward to each entry throughout the year. I would like to continue to receive entries if you will transcribe them. Your work is very much appreciated. My ancestors were early settlers in Daviess County and all were farmers as was Davis. I can appreciate the hardships these people faced each day. Please put me on the list for more entries. Jim Winkler
Hi, I just want to say as well that I've enjoyed the journal immensely. It's given me a great insight into the good and bad times my ancestors encountered, as most of them were farmers from the Yelvington/Maceo area. If the journal entries are continued in any form, I'd love to be on the list that receives them. I know it's been a lot work and time, but you've given us all a terrific education about life in that time period. Thank you so much for giving us the journal. Sally Kasey Emily....desc. of Duncans, Heads, Brashears, Kaseys and many others of Daviess County.
I hope that you change your mind about ending the posts from David's Journey. Though I do not know the names mentioned, it has been very interesting to read about his daily life. It is intriguing to know that, though he was a very hard worker, he still had time to write a little something almost every day about his life. He did this for a reason, to preserve this life style some way and you are helping him to preserve this. Dorothy
Dear Carol, Please don't let one uninterested "apple" spoil our whole bunch of people who are interested in your continuing to give us insight as to what a common, hard working man,his family, neighbors, and relatives went through in their days of pioneering in Daviess County, Kentucky. I find it very informative and interesting what a hard working man Davis was and his honorable quest in helping his fellow man, be it for money or friendship. You certainly don't find much of that these days. My MAY family migrated to Daviess County from Virginia.. Your entries let me imagine what my ancestors went though in those days. I want to thank you for what you've done for those who are interested in learning their family trials and tribulations of the 1800's.
