Folks I've just made a strange discovery. I signed up on the Rootsweb site several weeks ago to receive a notification any item went through the lists with the names I was researching on it. Since my vow for the year is to find the ancestors of my GGF, Cenus Hardy KENNEDY, and since I have been searching for the elusive KENNEDY for years - I decided to be "smart" and just put the name "Cenus" as the name for the search engine to look for - mainly because there are so many spelling of KENNEDY/KENADY/CANADA/CANADY, etc. etc. etc. I am getting anywhere from 10 to 15 notifications per day matching "Cenus" . At first I was so excited because it was such an unusual name it must be him!!!! Do you know how many people misspell census!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been lucky enough yet to get anything but a misspelled census reference. All this time I've been told that Cenus was an Indian name given him by his part-Indian mother. Others said it was an Irish name given him by the KENNEDYs. Since my GAF was born in February, 1870, do you think they just named him "Census" and didn't know how to spell? I have trying to find information on Steve M. Williams b.1854 d.1904 according to Veteran Graves Registration he served under General George Custer in the Indian Wars. I tried to get info from the National Archives but the claim they do not have any info on him. I would think the person who filled out the Veterans Grave Registration card had to have military info to know that he was a veteran. Steve Williams first appeared in Daviess County in 1878 when he married Amanda Jane Crabtree the daughter of George Washington Crabtree and Nancy Canzada Vanover. Steve and Jane Williams were on the 1880 Daviess County census in the Vanover District and on the 1900 census of Mclean County in Rumsey. Can anyone help me with this? I don't know where to look form here as I have not found him on any earlier census. Please Help Thanks

Hello, Does anyone out there have a death date and source for Martina Payne maiden name Bowlds wife of P. Franklin Payne. I know she died after 1900. Have tried funeral homes, death records and church records. Is she listed under an another name which these Paynes are good at doing . Appreciate any help. Candy Sutton in So Cal
Melissa, I don't know any more on this Bernard. His name came from notes left by my ancestor, Fr. Edwin DRURY. He did not have any notes regarding this Bernard being married a second time, nor where he died or was buried. I'm unsure if my Bernard could have been the father of the Bernard in Hardin Co. , as he made no mention of that in his notes....of course Fr. Edwin was the great grandson of Bernard and might very possibly not have known himself of any other descendants of Bernard..... Pam "Melissa T. Does anyone have access to marriages in Daviess Co. about 1882 looking to see if William Bailey married Sallie Sillman in Daviess Co. Thanks, Darlene Bailey
I am replying a little late but my power has been off since last Monday due to the Tornado that hit us and severly damaged 1/4 ot this town, I am happy to report that the library and the courthouses are in good shape as there is no damage to them. There are 111 houses that are completely destroyed and several hundred more that have major damage. Over 200 light poles were broken off and utility companys from as far away as Nashville Tenn have been here working around the clock. Some badly damaged areas will not have any power for several more days .About all I can say is God helped me dodge this bullet this time and after looking at the damaged areas I know I am lucky to be alive.Had No Electricity=no furnace but I am greatful that I still have my house to shiver in. Does anyone have any info on a William Bailey(b. 1852) , wife Sallie(b. 1862)? They lived out in the Little Flock church area, Sallie was a rug weaver. They had 2 children James Daniel Bailey(schoole teacher) and Elizabeth Viola Nesmith married Rev. Robert Nesmith. I know he died in Daviess Co., at home in 1926, but can't find a death certificate in the state files. Any advice on how to find his deat certificate? Darlene Bailey

Hello, I am looking for the parents and sibblings of Richard A. WILLIAMS, born 20 May 1842 in Knottsville, Davies Co., KY. He married Ann M. CHAMBERS, of Warwick Co., Indiana on 21 December 1863. Richard died in Lanton, Missouri 1902. Thanks, Barbara Allison lemuela@worldnet.att.net
I am aware that this is not genealogy, but I thought some of you may want to know. Owensboro, Daviess Co., was hit by at least one tornado and possibly three late this afternoon. Damage is severe in some areas. Kathy

Greetings All, And happy New Year, 2000. If you had ancestors in Colonial MD and Frontier KY, please take a moment and view the list below. Perhaps you'll see a few familiar surnames. The reason for this post, is that I find it so curious that many of Maryland founding families have descendants that homesteaded in Neosho Co., Ks and the sounding 3 counties in the South East corner of the State. The Sisters of Loretto from KY, were the first to come to Osage Mission on the Neosho River in 1847 to help school the Osage children. This little Catholic town (aka St. Paul-now abt 600 people), hosted a migration to fertile government farm lands after the Civil War. Anyway, if you had some lost folks in your data base, perhaps they may of settled in Kansas. Of all places! Ours did. It's my home town and is where my mother still lives. She is a Jarboe, with a Wathen grandmother; both surnames of St. Mary's Co., MD first families. Please, check out the names, and if you're inclined, hell holler back if you see someone familiar. Allot of these folks are loose ends in my data base and we are sure hunting to connect them to their ancestors. Can you help us? St. Paul, Ks has an annual Reunion on Memorial Day Weekend, hosted by the Osage Mission Historical Society. The Society is progressive, and works out of wonderful little museum across from St. Francis Catholic Church. Us Texans, are trying to contribute to their 2000 celebration and the museum by helping visitors in their genealogy research. A CD with FTM/GED.COM files has already been developed that links over 45,000 folks to their Colonial Maryland ancestors. But, there are some loose ends; of which are mentioned above. Need a little help and more than willing to share data. Best Regards, Randy Dunavan Longview, Texas
