I am wondering if Elmer Sinnett who married Ida Bowlds in 1911 is related to the Sinnett family in a previous post. I am trying to determine if this Ida Bowlds is Mary Eda Bowlds born March 15, 1882 to James Joseph Bowlds and Frances Martin. I find her in the 1900 Census as 18, living in Knottsville town, and residing as a boarder. I can find no other Ida Bowlds who would have married a Sinnett.
For the record: * I received no email from Bob Alvey on the proper way to share the St. Lawrence Marriages. In fact, the last message I received from Bob was a few months ago, and it contained his usual reprimand reminding me that he does indeed know more about geneological research than I do. I'm sure he does. * I did submit the first posting of St. Lawrence Marraiges 1842 to 1844 to rootsweb via the Daviess County site. It was rejected or deleted. It showed up after the post and was not there the next day. The person in charge of this list assured me it was okay to share here. I plan to put it all together when I am done and try again. However, if Bob, as the expert, would like to do that for me, feel free. * Several have emailed me thanking me for doing this. There is only one reason why I am doing it. It's part of my family history: "People should give when they receive." From my father and his father and ... Many have helped me by providing me with information, clues, pictures, files, and just some new people to call cousin. Thanks!!! *Buddy is my husband. He lets me use his name. My name is Jane. I grew up in Owensboro. Most of my family can be found at St. Lawrence and St. Williams as well as St. Peters and St. Alpsonsus and the big Catholic cemetery downtown. A few others are found in various other cemeteries. * I usually turn the other cheek, but my neck is stiff today. I'll get the Ben Gay and ask that no one respond to the list concerning Bob's message on how to do it. Enough said!!! I am estimating 2 more days unless I get too bogged down doing report cards. I posted the following some time ago....no response. Wondering if perhaps someone is researching the THOMPSON family. JAMES LEONARD THOMPSON....B. 1791....M. RACHEL JONES DUNCAN. Anyone having info on the above...his children, parents or siblings please contact me. Thanks....Mary Kindred
Monitored the list for a year and layed off genealogy for a while, but have now resubscribed to the list in hopes of making a connection. My family tree ends in Daviess county and I have been dead there over the past 20 years. All puns intended. My ancestor is Richard SINNETT and his lovely wife Mary CATES Sinnett who lived in and around the Panther Creek Baptist Church. I believe that Richard and Mary Sinnett had several boys and girls but have yet to find any documentation to back this up. Henry SINNETT born in 1802 married Elizabeth STURMAN, another Daviess county resident. Her father, Thomas STURMAN died young and left her mother Nancy BRIANT STURMAN the awesome responsibility to raise her children. Now comes Zachariah BRIANT, Nancy's father, who sues his daughter for half her land, claiming that he had contributed to the purchase of it. The courts backed the father and he then left the state and settled in Spencer Indiana. What's a father to do, huh?? Nancy's mother was Tabitha STINNETT, who along with her husband and her children were instrumental in spreading the Baptist word to satellite churches that were spreading around. Would like to correspond with anyone else interested in these families. SINNETT STURMAN BRIANT STINNETT
I just wanted to thank Buddy for taking the time to post the marriages. My family goes way back around that area. I have even seen a few of my ancestors on your list. I look forward to the posts every night. Way to go, Buddy!! Thanks, Amy in IN
Amy & others I think it is great what Buddy is doing as well but unfortunately it would be a lot better if he were to post this information to a web page, the Daviess Co, KY web page or a Rootsweb or Genweb project page on KY like Sandi Gorin does all with her Tips etc. where they will be seen by more than a few just a fleeting e-mail that many on this list with non-catholic families will delete and users of other KY lists like WKY, Grayson, Hardin etc will not be able to take advantage. I sent my thoughts some time ago to Buddy personally but will post to the list now. Please refrain from posting your approval or disapproval, no one is asking Buddy to stop so if you just want to vent to me about my comments, send me a private e-mail. I have, from the start, created a St Lawrence Marriage Record file for my own purposes to go along with the baptisms and the cemetery listing that was published in the St Lawrence anniversary book in 1998. Anyone wanting a copy of the consolidated marriages sometime after Buddy is through, send me an e-mail and I will send it to you but as an attachment.
Buddy Thompson, thank you so much for taking the time to put these marriages on the mailing list. You are just about to the year that I need!! Keep up the good works!! Judy
