Next year, 2001, will be the 200th. anniversary of the death of James Mollihorne. He was one of the original settlers with the Maryland League in 1785. He was born in 1720 in Maryland. James Mollihorne migrated with the League to Kentucky at the age of 65. What a feat at age when most people retire and plan to slow down. Think of the hardships he and others must have suffered as they travel overland and by water to an area of the country that was unsettled and threatened with Indian attacks. He lived to be 81 years old when he died and was buried at Holy Cross Church. According to several written sources, James Mollihorne was the first adult to be buried in the cemetery of Holy Cross. At one time, his grave was covered by a full length slab/stone that contained his name and was a marvel to all who saw it. Today, the stone is no longer visible, either having been removed by a priest to use in the foundation of a house (possible legend) or covered over for some reason with soil. In any case, he left behind a legacy of pioneer spirit in his descendants. With the 200th. anniversary of his death approaching next year, it seems fitting to some of his descendants to mark the occasion with a "Decendants of James Mollihorne Reunion" to be held next summer in the year 2001. Date and place are not specific at this time. Likely, it will be in July and in an area somewhere in, around, or between the Springfield - Bardstown area. Places are being sought out at this time that will hold a large number of people and will provide adequate shelter in case of rain. Until we have a general idea on how many people would be interested in attending, a place cannot be obtained. A date should be finalized by the end of April. We need your help. If you descend from any of James Mollihorne's six children - Charles Mollyhorn who married Jane ?, James molohon who married 1st. ? and second Maria Langley, Margaret "Peggy" who married John Thompson, Alawezer/Eloise/Alla Louis/Aloysia who married ? (maybe Francis) Higdon, Lusannah/Sussanah who married ? (maybe Randall/Randolf) Hoskins, and Jane "Jenny" who married Zachariah Drury we would like to ask you to plan to come to this reunion. We need to get a general idea on the number of people who would like to come by the end of May so that a place can be secured. We also need your help in spreading the word to those who do not have access to computers to get this information. If possible, plan to bring family information that will show your connection back to the first KY Molohon/Mollyhorn pioneer. We have no idea how many different surnames this reunion will touch but we suspect over 100. Bring a camera to take pictures of family groups. Any and all related to James Mollihorne should plan to attend. To let us know if you think you will be able to attend, please contact one of the people below as soon as possible. Please give us you name, the number you think will be attending, an email address if possible, and a mailing address with phone number. We would like to make a directory following the reunion.
